Awakening of German Patriots - Central Germany (, short-form: AdPM) was a German political party that splintered from the Alternative for Germany (AfD) and was established by André Poggenburg on January 11, 2019, following his forced resignation from AfD in 2018. Background In 2018, Poggenburg, the leader of the AfD's Saxony-Anhalt branch, was reprimanded by AfD leadership for messaging "Germany for Germans" to party members over WhatsApp. Later that year he resigned from the party after a censure for calling German Turks "camel drivers" and "caraway seed traders" in a speech to party supporters. André Poggenburg
André Poggenburg (born 1975 in Weißenfels, Bezirk Halle, East Germany) is a German politician and former member of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. He was state chairman of the party in the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt and was leading candidate for the 2016 Saxony-Anhalt state elections. The AfD gained 24.2 percent of the votes and is now the second largest political force in Saxony-Anhalt. After a 2017 leak of his WhatsApp chat, Poggenburg was found to be using the neo-Nazi slogan, "Germany for the Germans". In 2018 he was forced to resign after referring to Germans of Turkish origin as "fatherless vermin" and "camel drivers", who should go back to their "mud huts" and "multiple wives". 2021 Saxony-Anhalt State Election
The 2021 Saxony-Anhalt state election was held on 6 June 2021 to elect the 8th Landtag of Saxony-Anhalt. The outgoing government was coalition of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), Social Democratic Party (SPD), and The Greens, led by Minister-President Reiner Haseloff. The CDU won an unexpectedly strong 37.1% of votes, an increase of 7.4 percentage points. The opposition Alternative for Germany (AfD) finished on 20.8%, a decline of 3.4 percentage points. The Left and SPD each suffered their worst ever results in the state, recording 11.0% and 8.4% respectively. The Free Democratic Party (FDP), which narrowly failed to re-enter the Landtag in 2016, won 6.4% of votes and 7 seats.
