Atrani
Atrani is a city and ''comune'' on the Amalfi Coast in the province of Salerno in the Campania region of south-western Italy. It is located to the east of Amalfi, several minutes' drive down the coast. The municipality of Atrani has a land area of , making it the smallest in Italy. Its population was 832 in 2020. It is one of I Borghi più belli d'Italia ("The most beautiful villages of Italy"). Geography The town is located between the Civita Hill and Aureo Hill. Atrani is along the valley of the river Dragone (river), Dragone, named for a legend saying there once was a terrible dragon that would breathe fire and would hide himself there. () is a non-profit private association of small Italian towns of strong historical and artistic interest, that was founded in March 2001 on the initiative of the Tourism Council of the National Association of Italian Municipalities, with the aim of preserving and maintaining villages of quality heritage. The Duchy of Amalfi () or the Republic of Amalfi was a '' de facto'' independent state centered on the Southern Italian city of Amalfi during the 10th and 11th centuries.
