Athletics At The 2016 Summer Olympics – Men's Decathlon
The men's decathlon competition at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The event was held at the Estádio Olímpico João Havelange, Olympic Stadium between 17 and 18 August. The medals were presented by Dagmawit Girmay Berhane, International Olympic Committee, IOC List of members of the International Olympic Committee, member, Ethiopia and Bernard Amsalem, Council Member of the International Association of Athletics Federations, IAAF. Competition format The decathlon consists of ten track and field events, with a points system that awards higher scores for better results in each of the ten components. Kurt Felix (athlete)
Kurt Felix (born 4 July 1988) is a Grenada, Grenadian athlete who competes in the decathlon. He was the NCAA 2012 Division I Decathlon Champion and was named the Mountain West Men's Outdoor Track and Field Student-Athlete of the Year. He competed at the Athletics at the 2012 Summer Olympics – Men's decathlon, 2012 Summer Olympics and the Athletics at the 2016 Summer Olympics – Men's decathlon, 2016 Summer Olympics and won the bronze medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. On 24–25 July 2017, Kurt participated in the 21st Stadtwerke Ratingen Mehrkampf-meeting which was part of the IAAF Combined Events Challenge. He placed second at the meet with a score of 8509 points and set a meeting record in the Javelin Throw with a distance of 72.80m. On 5 January 2018 at the National Sports Awards, Kurt received the Presidential Award of Merrit for 2017 from the Grenada Olympic Committee. Bernard Amsalem
Bernard Amsalem (born 1951 in Saida, Algeria) is a French organizer of athletics. He was vice-president of the French Athletics Federation from 1997 to 2001, and is now the president since 2001. Amsalem was vice-president of the French Olympic Committee from 2001 to 2009, and was head of the French delegation to the 2012 Olympics. He was founder and president of the Francophone Athletics Federation, and has been a member of the board of the International Association of Athletics Federations since 2011. He served as president of Meeting Areva in Saint-Denis, France in 2008. He was promoted to the rank of Officer of the Legion of Honour on December 31, 2012. Zach Ziemek
Zachery (Zach) Ziemek (born February 23, 1993) is an American athlete competing in the decathlon. Ziemek is one of only two American men to compete in 3 decathlon competitions at the Olympic Games and the only American in history to finish 3 Olympic Decathlons (2016, 2020, 2024). Ziemek won the bronze medal at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene with a personal best score of 8676. In 2021 he finished 6th at the Tokyo Olympics. He represented his country at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing, where he finished 15th. Ziemek finished 7th in the decathlon at the 2016 Olympics. Roman Šebrle
Roman Šebrle (; born 26 November 1974) is a retired decathlete from the Czech Republic. He is considered to be one of the best decathlon athletes of all time. Originally a high jumper, he later switched to the combined events and is a former world record holder in the decathlon, holding the record for over eleven years. In 2001 in Götzis he became the first decathlete ever to achieve over 9,000 points, setting the record at 9,026 points, succeeding his compatriot, Tomáš Dvořák, who had scored 8,994 points two years earlier. After placing second in the decathlon during the 2000 Summer Olympics, Šebrle won the gold medal in the 2004 Summer Olympics.
