Athletics At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Men's 1500 Metres
The men's 1500 metres at the 2008 Summer Olympics took place on 15–19 August at the Beijing National Stadium. Forty-eight athletes from 30 nations competed. The qualifying standards were 3:36.60 (A standard) and 3:39.00 (B standard). The initial winner, Rashid Ramzi of Bahrain, tested positive for the blood-booster CERA and was disqualified on November 18, 2009. After the disqualification, the event was won by Asbel Kiprop of Kenya, the nation's fourth title in the event. It was the fourth straight Games with a Kenyan on the podium in the event; the United States (six times from 1896 to 1920) and Great Britain (four times from 1908 to 1924) were the only other nations to have accomplished that. Tiidrek Nurme (born 18 November 1985) is an Estonian long and middle-distance runner, the current national record holder of the 1500 metres and 3000 metres.
