Athletics At The 1992 Summer Olympics – Men's Long Jump
The men's long jump was an event at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. There were 50 participating athletes from 37 nations, with two qualifying groups. The maximum number of athletes per nation had been set at three since the 1930 Olympic Congress. The event was won by 3 cm by Carl Lewis of the United States, the nation's third consecutive and 19th overall gold medal in the men's long jump. Lewis became the second man to win three medals in the event (after Ralph Boston) and the first to win three golds. His winning margin of 3 cm would prove to be his narrowest of his four Olympic titles. Mike Powell repeated his silver medal performance from 1988, becoming the eighth two-medal winner in the event. Joe Greene took bronze, completing the United States' second consecutive and fourth overall (1896, 1904, 1988) medal sweep in the men's long jump. Borut Bilač
Borut Bilač (born 14 April 1965 in Postojna) is a retired Slovenian long jumper. Bilač won the bronze medal at the 1990 European Athletics Championships, representing Yugoslavia, and finished ninth at the Athletics at the 1992 Summer Olympics, 1992 Olympic Games representing Slovenia. His personal best is 8.24 metres, achieved on 5 July 1990 in Cagliari, Italy. Bilač began competing in athletics in primary school. He jumped 6.94 metres in the long jump and 2.02 metres in the high jump as a youth (U-18) athlete in 1982, that year's best U-18 performances in Yugoslavia. David Culbert
David Thomas Culbert (born 17 March 1967 in Sydney) is a former international track and field athlete. In an international long jump career that spanned ten years, he won two Commonwealth Games silver medals in 1990 and 1994 and also made finals at the 1992 Olympics. Iván Lázaro Pedroso Soler (; born December 17, 1972) is a retired Cuban track and field athlete, who specialized in the long jump, and the current coach of Nelson Évora, Yulimar Rojas, and Jordan Díaz. Career Pedroso was born in Havana, Cuba. In July 1990, aged just 17, Pedroso jumped more than eight meters for the first time. Facing tough competition from Carl Lewis, Mike Powell and others, he still won numerous gold medals in international competitions in the early nineties. He almost never finished in less than first place. When Powell and Lewis retired, Pedroso became a dominant athlete, winning numerous indoor and outdoor World Championships.
