These are the official results of the men's decathlon competition at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California. There were a total number of 26 participating athletes, with the competition starting on August 8, 1984, and ending on August 9, 1984. The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum (also known as the Los Angeles Coliseum or L.A. The 110 metres hurdles, or 110-metre hurdles, is a hurdling track and field event for men. It is included in the athletics programme at the Summer Olympic Games. The female counterpart is the 100 metres hurdles. As part of a racing event, ten hurdles of in height are evenly spaced along a straight course of 110 metres. They are positioned so that they will fall over if bumped into by the runner. Fallen hurdles do not carry a fixed time penalty for the runners, but they have a significant pull-over weight which slows down the run. Like the 100 metres sprint, the 110 metres hurdles begins in the starting blocks. For the 110 m hurdles, the first hurdle is placed after a run-up of 13.72 metres (45 ft) from the starting line. Tim Bright
Timothy William Bright (born July 28, 1960) is an American retired athlete in the pole vault and the decathlon. Collegiate career Bright participated in track & field at Linn-Benton Community College from 1978-80, earning NJCAA all-America honors his sophomore year, and then transferred to Abilene Christian University. In 1991, he was elected to the NWAC Hall of Fame. International career Bright represented the United States in the decathlon at the 1984 Olympics, the 1988 Olympics, and the 1987 World Championships, and in the pole vault at the 1985 World University Games, the 1985 World Cup, the 1991 World Championships, and the 1992 Olympics. In 1987, he scored a personal best of 8,340 points in the decathlon at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in San Jose. Bradley McStravick
Bradley Steven McStravick (25 May 1956 – 21 August 2024) was a British athlete. He competed in the men's decathlon at the 1980 Summer Olympics and the 1984 Summer Olympics. McStravick represented Scotland at the 1982 and 1986 Commonwealth Games. During the 1986 Games in Edinburgh he finished just outside the medals in fourth place behind Daley Thompson. He was twice the British decathlon champion after winning the British AAA Championships title at the 1979 AAA Championships and the 1980 AAA Championships. Georg Werthner
Dr. Georg Werthner (born 7 April 1956) is an Austrian decathlete. He is notable for being the first athlete to finish four Olympic decathlons. In the 1988 Summer Olympics, Daley Thompson crossed the finish-line a little more than 18 seconds after him to become the second athlete to do this. Born in Linz, Werthner was the Austrian national champion in the decathlon 8 times (1975, 1977, 1979, 1980, 1982, 1984, 1986, and 1988), along with being individual event champion in long jump (1977), triple jump (1977, 1979, 1980, and 1982), javelin throw (1979-1981, 1983, 1984, and 1988). Running with his ULC Linz club, he was a member of their 1980 and 1981 winning 4 × 100 metres relay team, and their 1980 4 × 400 metres relay team. Dave Steen (decathlete)
David Lee Steen, (born 14 November 1959) is a Canadian retired decathlete, a three-time member of the Canadian Summer Olympic Games team and the first Canadian to score more than 8,000 points in the decathlon. He was named after his uncle, David Lorne Steen, a Canadian shot putter and gold medallist at the 1966 Commonwealth Games. His father, Don Steen, was Canadian decathlon champion in 1956. Steen was a two-time All American for the California Golden Bears track and field team, placing in the decathlon top five at the 1979 and 1980 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Earlier in his career, Steen excelled in the jump events, establishing personal bests of 7.37m, 2.03m, and 14.25m in the long, high, and triple jump while attending Burnaby Central Secondary. Guido Kratschmer
Guido Kratschmer (; born 10 January 1953 in Klotzenhof, West Germany) is a retired West German decathlete. His sports club was the USC Mainz. Kratschmer competed at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, where he won the silver medal in the men's decathlon event. He could not participate at the 1980 Summer Olympics because of the boycott. In 1980, Kratschmer broke the world record held by Daley Thompson, but in 1982, Kratschmer's mark was in turn topped by Thompson. Kratschmer's personal best total in the decathlon was 8667 points, achieved in June 1980 in Bernhausen, West Germany.
