Athletics At The 1984 Summer Olympics – Men's 400 Metres
The men's 400 metres was an event at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California. It was held from August 4 to August 8. Eighty athletes from 56 nations competed. The maximum number of athletes per nation had been set at 3 since the 1930 Olympic Congress. The event was won by 0.27 seconds by Alonzo Babers, returning the United States to the top of the podium for the first time since 1972 (and the 13th time overall). Gabriel Tiacoh won the Ivory Coast's first Olympic medal in any event, with a silver. Background This was the twentieth appearance of the event, which is one of 12 athletics events to have been held at every Summer Olympics. None of the finalists from 1980 returned. 4 (four) is a number, numeral and digit. It is the natural number following 3 and preceding 5. It is a square number, the smallest semiprime and composite number, and is considered unlucky in many East Asian cultures. Evolution of the Hindu-Arabic digit Brahmic numerals represented 1, 2, and 3 with as many lines. 4 was simplified by joining its four lines into a cross that looks like the modern plus sign. Nordin Mohd Jadi (born 12 May 1962 in Muar, Johor, Malaysia) is a former Malaysia track runner and athlete who represented Malaysia in many international and regional events and championships in the 1980s. His favourite athletic events were the 200 metre and 400 metre track events. David Kitur (born October 12, 1962) is a retired Kenyan runner, who specialised in 400 metres. In 1983, at the inaugural world championships he was part of the Kenyan 4x400 metres relay team, which reached semifinals.
