Athletics At The 1964 Summer Olympics – Women's Shot Put
The women's shot put was one of three women's throwing events on the Athletics at the 1964 Summer Olympics program in Tokyo. It was held on 20 October 1964. 17 athletes from 12 nations entered, with 1 not starting the qualification round. Results Qualification The qualification standard was 15.00 metres. Each thrower had three attempts to reach that standard. Final The scores from the qualification were ignored, each thrower having three fresh attempts. The top six after those three received three more, taking their best throw from the six. Olympic Stadium (Tokyo)
The Japan National Stadium, officially named and formerly known as or , is a multi-purpose stadium used mostly for association football in Kasumigaoka, Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. The facility served as the main stadium for the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the venue for track and field athletics events at the 2020 Summer Olympics and 2020 Summer Paralympics in 2021. Demolition of the old National Stadium was completed in May 2015, allowing for the construction of the new stadium to begin on 11 December 2016. The original plans for the new stadium were scrapped in July 2015 by Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe, who announced a rebid after a public outcry prompted by increased building costs. Earlene Brown (née ''Dennis;'' June 11, 1935 – May 1, 1983) was an American athlete notable for her careers in track and field and roller games. She competed at the 1956, 1960 and 1964 Olympics in the shot put and discus throw and won a bronze medal in the shot put in 1960; she finished fourth in the discus in 1956. The shot put at the Summer Olympics is one of four track and field throwing events held at the multi-sport event. The men's shot put has been present on the Olympic athletics programme since 1896 (one of two throws events at the first Olympics, alongside the discus). The women's event was added to the programme at the 1948 Olympics just over fifty years later. The Olympic record for the women's event was set by the East German Ilona Slupianek with a put of in 1980, and the record for the men's event of was set by the American Ryan Crouser in 2021. Lady Mary Elizabeth Peters, (born 6 July 1939) is a Northern Irish former athlete, best known as a competitor in the pentathlon and shot put. Peters was named as Lady Companion of the Order of the Garter on 27 February 2019. She was installed in St. George's Chapel, the chapel of the Order, on Garter Day, 17 June. Early life and education Peters was born in Halewood, Lancashire, but moved to Ballymena (and later Belfast) at age eleven when her father's job was relocated to Northern Ireland. She now lives in Derriaghy, within the Lisburn and Castlereagh district, just outside Belfast. Nancy McCredie
Nancy McCredie (February 5, 1945 – May 1, 2021) was a Canadian female track and field athlete. During her athletic career, she won three gold medals at the Pan American Games and one bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games. McCredie was awarded the Velma Springstead Trophy as the best Canadian female athlete of the year in 1963. Career McCredie claimed two gold medals at the 1963 Pan American Games in Brazil and was awarded the Velma Springstead Trophy.
