Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos
Julio Martínez Prádanos National Stadium (, ; named after Julio Martínez) is an association football stadium in Santiago, Chile. Located in the Ñuñoa commune, it is part of Sports Park National Stadium, a 62 hectare sporting complex which also features tennis courts, an aquatics center, a modern gymnasium, a velodrome, a BMX circuit, and an assistant ground/warmup athletics track. Construction began in February 1937 and the stadium was inaugurated on December 3, 1938. The architecture was based on the Olympiastadion in Berlin, Germany. The stadium was one of the venues for the FIFA World Cup in 1962, and hosted the final where Brazil defeated Czechoslovakia 3–1. In 1948, the stadium hosted the matches of the South American Championship of Champions, the competition that inspired the creation of the UEFA Champions League and of the Copa Libertadores. Jackie Joyner-Kersee
Jacqueline Joyner-Kersee (born March 3, 1962) is an American former track and field athlete who competed in both the heptathlon and long jump. She won three gold, one silver, and two bronze Olympic medals at four different Olympic Games. Joyner-Kersee was also a four-time gold medalist (twice each in heptathlon and long jump) at the world championships. Since 1988, she has held the world record for heptathlon. Early life Jacqueline Joyner was born March 3, 1962, in East St. Louis, Illinois, and was named after Jacqueline Kennedy, the First Lady of the United States. As a high school athlete at East St. Louis Lincoln Senior High School, she qualified for the finals in the long jump at the 1980 Olympic Trials, finishing 8th behind another high schooler, Carol Lewis. Athletics At The 2023 Pan American Games
Sport of athletics, Athletics competitions at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile will be held on October 22, between October 29 and November 4, 2023 at the Athletics Stadium in the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos, Julio Martínez National Stadium Coliseum, with the marathon and walks being held in the Santiago streets. A total of 48 events will be contested, 23 each for men and women, and two mixed events. Qualification A total of 778 athletes will qualify to compete. Each nation may enter a maximum of two athletes in each individual event (provided the second person is the reigning 2022 area champion), and one team per relay event. Each event has a maximum number of competitors and a minimum performance standard. Chile as host nation, is granted an automatic athlete slot per event, in the event no one qualifies for that respective event.
