Athletics At The 2020 Summer Paralympics
Para-athletics, Athletics at the 2020 Summer Paralympics were held in the Japan National Stadium (2019), National Stadium in Tokyo. There was 167 medal events: 93 for men, 73 for women and one mixed event. It was the largest contest of the Games programme regarding athlete numbers and medal events to be scheduled. The 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They kept the 2020 name and were instead held from 24 August to 5 September 2021. Olivia Breen
Olivia Breen (born 26 July 1996) is a Welsh Paralympian athlete, who competes for Wales and Great Britain mainly in T38 sprint and F38 long jump events. She qualified for the 2012 Summer Paralympics and was selected for the T38 100m and 200m sprint and was also part of the T35-38 women's relay team. She has also represented Wales at the 2014, 2018 and 2022 Commonwealth Games winning gold in the F38 Long Jump in 2018 and gold in the T37/38 100m in 2022 . Early life Breen was born in England to a Welsh mother and Irish father. Breen, who has cerebral palsy, began racing while still at primary school. Career Breen was given her T38 classification in January 2012, allowing her to be brought into contention for Paralympic selection. Purificación Ortiz (Campo de Criptana, 1972) is a paralympic athlete from Spain competing mainly in category F11 (totally blind) long jump and sprint events. Marlene van Gansewinkel (born 11 March 1995) is a Dutch Paralympic athlete. In 2021, she won the gold medal in both the women's 100 metres T64 and 200 metres T64 events at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan. Marie-Amélie Le Fur
Marie-Amélie Le Fur (; born 26 September 1988) she is a French Paralympic athlete from Vendôme, Centre Region, competing in T44 sprint and F44 long jump events. Her left leg was amputated below the knee following a motor scooter accident in 2004. Before she lost her leg, she was a French junior running champion. As of 2023, Le Fur is the President of the French Paralympic and Sports Committee. Le Fur competed in the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, China. Fleur Jong (; born 17 December 1995) is a Dutch Paralympic athlete. Martina Caironi (born 13 September 1989) is an Italian Paralympic athletics, Paralympic athlete. She competed at the 2012 Summer Paralympics and 2016 Summer Paralympics. Vanessa Low
Vanessa Low (born 17 July 1990) is a German-born Australian Paralympian, Paralympic Track and field, athlete competing in T42 (classification), T42 Sprint (running), sprint and long jump events. Born in East Germany, she gained Australian nationality in June 2017. In 2016, Low was the only actively competing female track athlete with two above-knee amputations of her legs. Despite the location of these amputations and despite her having to compete with athletes having one fully functional leg, she successfully made it to the finals of all of her sprint and long jump competitions at both the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London and the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Rio.
