100 Metres
The 100 metres, or 100-meter dash, is a sprint race in track and field competitions. The shortest common outdoor running distance, the dash is one of the most popular and prestigious events in the sport of athletics. It has been contested at the Summer Olympics since 1896 for men and since 1928 for women. The inaugural World Championships were in 1983. On an outdoor 400-metre running track, the 100 m is held on the home straight, with the start usually being set on an extension to make it a straight-line race. There are three instructions given to the runners immediately before and at the beginning of the race: "on your marks", "set", and the firing of the starter's pistol. The runners move to the starting blocks when they hear the 'on your marks' instruction. Samuel Osewa
Samuel is a figure who, in the narratives of the Hebrew Bible, plays a key role in the transition from the biblical judges to the United Kingdom of Israel under Saul, and again in the monarchy's transition from Saul to David. Oluwasegun Makinde (born 6 July 1991) is a Nigeria-born Canadian athlete competing in sprinting events. Born in Maiduguri, Nigeria, Makinde moved with his family to Canada in 1992. He was an unused relay member at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. He won the gold medal in the 200 metres at the 2013 Jeux de la Francophonie. In July 2016, he was named to Canada's Olympic team. Gabriel Oliveira Constantino (born 9 February 1995) is a Brazilian hurdler. He is the current South American record holder in the 110m hurdles, with a time of 13.18. Constantino finished 6th in the men's 60 metres hurdles at the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships. He advanced to the final on time, being the second fastest and final non-automatic qualifier. To qualify for the championships, he equaled at national and South American record of 7.60 seconds. In 2018, in France, he broke the South American record for 110m hurdles with a time of 13.23. In July 2019, in Hungary, he hit again the South American record of 110m hurdles, with a time of 13.18. Eetu Rantala (born 5 June 1993) is a Finnish sprinter who specialized in the 100 metres, 200 metres and 4 × 100 metres relay. He competed at four European Championships, one European Indoor Championships and won three Finnish titles. Career He grew up in Oulainen. As a child he practised football and diving, followed by baseball. He joined the club Oulu Pyrinnö at the age of 15, some 100 kilometres away from his home, and was coached by Jukka Vähäkangas. Pascal Mancini (born 18 April 1989) is a Swiss sprinter who specializes in the 100 metres. He was born in Fribourg. He competed at the 2008 World Junior Championships, the 2009 European Indoor Championships, the 2010 World Indoor Championships without reaching the final, and the 2011 European U23 Championships. In the 4 × 100 metres relay he finished fourth at the 2007 European Junior Championships and competed at the 2009 World Championships. Ján Volko (born 2 November 1996) is a Slovak sprinter. He competed in the 60 metres at the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships. Career Volko started racing in the club BK HNT N Bratislava and also hosted in the club AK Olomouc in the Czech athletics extra league. He has been racing for the club Naša atletika since 2019. On 4 March 2017, Volko won a silver medal in the 60 meters at the 2017 European Athletics Indoor Championships, setting a new record with a time of 6.58 seconds and becoming the first Slovak representative to reach the final. At the 2019 European Athletics Indoor Championships, Volko won the gold medal in the 60m run on 2 March 2019.
