Athletics At The 2016 Summer Olympics – Women's Discus Throw
The women's discus throw competition at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil was held at the Estádio Olímpico João Havelange, Olympic Stadium on 16–17 August. Each athlete received three throws in the qualifying round. All who achieved the qualifying distance progressed to the final. Each finalist was allowed three throws in last round, with the top eight athletes after that point being given three further attempts. Summary Mélina Robert-Michon took the lead with a 65.52 m on the first throw of the final competition. On the second throw, Nadine Müller (athlete), Nadine Müller threw 63.13 m. On the third throw, Su Xinyue threw 63.88 m to move into silver position. Those three throws held up until Dani Samuels displaced Müller near the end of the round. Müller couldn't land another legal throw. Nobody could improve their position through the second round. Geoffrey Gardner
Geoffrey Robert Gardner (born 1961) is a political figure from the Australian territory of Norfolk Island. Norfolk Island Gardner was the chief minister of Norfolk Island from 5 December 2001 to 2 June 2006. He was succeeded in that post by David Buffett. Julia Harting (née Fischer; born 1 April 1990 in Berlin) is a German athlete who specialises in the discus throw. She won the silver medal at the 2016 European Championships, and has represented Germany at two Olympics (2012 and 2016). She was a u18 World Champion in 2007. Fischer represented Germany at the 2012 European Athletics Championships where she finished 5th in the discus event with a throw of 62.10 metres. Martina Hellmann
Martina Helga Hellmann ( Opitz; born 12 December 1960) is a retired German track and field athlete who represented East Germany. She was the Olympic champion in the discus throw at the 1988 Summer Olympics. She also won the World Championship in that event in 1983 and again in 1987. Born in Leipzig, Saxony, Hellmann was sixteen years old when she began participating in the event. In 1977 she gave the participants' oath at the opening of the East German gymnastics and sport festival. That summer she set the world record for 16-year-olds with a throw of 55.00 meters.
