2014 Commonwealth Games
The 2014 Commonwealth Games (), officially known as the XX Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Glasgow 2014 (; ), were an international multi-sport event celebrated in the tradition of the Commonwealth Games as governed by the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF). It took place in Glasgow, Scotland, from 23 July to 3 August 2014. Glasgow was selected as the host city on 9 November 2007 during CGF General Assembly in Colombo, Colombo, Sri Lanka, defeating Abuja, Abuja, Nigeria. It was the largest multi-sport event ever held in Scotland with around 4,950 athletes from 71 different nations and territories competing in 18 different sports, outranking the 1970 British Commonwealth Games, 1970 and 1986 Commonwealth Games, 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh. Yamilé Aldama
Yamilé Aldama Pozo (; born 14 August 1972) is a Cuban-born triple jumper. She represented Cuba until 2003, Sudan from 2004 to 2010, then Great Britain from 2011 onwards. A four-time Olympian (2000–12), she won a silver medal at the 1999 World Championships in Athletics, 1999 World Championships and a gold medal at the 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships, 2012 World Indoor Championships. Life and career Aldama was born in Havana, Cuba, and initially represented her country of birth.
