Athletics At The 2012 Summer Olympics – Women's Discus Throw
The women's discus throw competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom was held at the Olympic Stadium (London), Olympic Stadium on 3–4 August. Each athlete received three throws in the qualifying round. All who achieved the qualifying distance progressed to the final. If less than twelve athletes were to achieve this mark, then the twelve furthest throwing athletes would reach the final. Each finalist is allowed three throws in last round, with the top eight athletes after that point being given three further attempts. Eight automatic qualifiers were achieved in the qualifying round, all but one exceeding the minimum by half a meter. Darya Pishchalnikova, Nadine Müller (athlete), Nadine Müller and Sandra Perković made it in their first attempt, while Yarelys Barrios hit the top qualifier 65.94 in her second throw after fouling the first. Darya Pishchalnikova
Darya Vitalyevna Pishchalnikova (, born 19 July 1985 in Astrakhan) is a female discus thrower from Russia. Pishchalnikova is the sister of Bogdan Pishchalnikov and Kirill Pishchalnikov. Career Pishchalnikova rose through the ranks as a young athlete, winning the silver medal in the discus at the 2001 World Youth Championships in Athletics, then repeating that feat at the 2004 World Junior Championships in Athletics, World Junior Championships in 2004. She established herself as one of the top women's throwers at the 2006 European Athletics Championships, taking the gold medal with a throw of 65.55 metres, which remains her personal best. Gabriele Reinsch
Gabriele Reinsch (born 23 September 1963 in Cottbus) is a German track and field athlete. She represented East Germany in the 1988 Olympic Games in discus throw. On 9 July 1988 at the East Germany–Italy tournament in Neubrandenburg, she set a new world record with a throw of . This was further than the previous record, set by the Czechoslovakian Zdenka Šilhavá. Seema Punia-Antil (born 27 July 1983) is an Indian discus thrower.Her personal best throw is 64.84 m,achieved in Kyiv in 2004. Early life Seema Antil was born in Khewda village of Sonipat district in Haryana. Her sporting career began at the age of 11 years as a hurdler and a long-jumper, but later took to discus throw. Mélina Robert-Michon (; born 18 July 1979) is a French discus thrower. She was the silver medalist at the 2013 World Championships and 2016 Summer Olympics and the national record holder.
