Athletics At The 1988 Summer Olympics – Men's Long Jump
The men's long jump at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea had a start list of 41 competitors from 31 nations, with two qualifying groups (41 jumpers) before the final (12) took place on Sunday September 25, 1988. The maximum number of athletes per nation had been set at three since the 1930 Olympic Congress. The event was won by 23 cm by Carl Lewis of the United States, the nation's second consecutive and 18th overall gold medal in the men's long jump. It was Lewis's second gold medal of the Games (after Ben Johnson's disqualification in the 100 metres elevated Lewis to gold in that event) as he tried to defend his 1984 quadruple; he would later come short in the 200 metres (taking silver) and did not even get to compete in the 4 × 100 metres relay (the heats team fumbled an exchange and did not qualify for the final). The Seoul Olympic Stadium (), a.k.a. Jamsil Olympic Stadium (formerly romanised as ''Chamshil''), is a multi-purpose stadium in Seoul, South Korea. It is the main stadium built for the 1988 Summer Olympics and the 1986 Asian Games, 10th Asian Games in 1986. Yusuf Alli (born 28 July 1960 in Lagos) is a retired Nigerian long jumper, and three-time Olympian. He is best known for his gold medal at the 1990 Commonwealth Games. Bruny Surin
Bruny Surin (born July 12, 1967) is a Canadian former track and field athlete, who was the winner of a gold medal in the 4 × 100 metres relay at the 1996 Summer Olympics. In 2008 he was inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame as part of the 1996 Summer Olympics 4 × 100 relay team. In the 100 metres, he has broken the 10-second barrier multiple times and holds a personal record of 9.84 seconds. Stewart St. Ledger Faulkner (born 19 February 1969) is a male British retired athlete who competed in the men's long jump and appeared at the 1988 Summer Olympics. Biography He was born in Northampton, Northamptonshire to parents of Jamaican-Cuban descent and was a member of Birchfield Harriers. Leonid Anatolyevich Voloshin (; born 30 March 1966 in Ordzhonikidze) is a retired triple jumper from Russia. He competed at the 1988 Summer Olympics and the 1992 Summer Olympics. Jarmo ( or , also ''Qal'at Jarmo'') is a prehistoric archeological site located in modern Iraqi Kurdistan on the foothills of the Zagros Mountains.
