The men's 100 metres sprint event at the 1984 Summer Olympics, 1984 Olympic Games took place between August 3 and August 4. Eighty-two athletes from 59 countries participated. Each nation was limited to 3 athletes per rules in force since the 1930 Olympic Congress. The event was won by Carl Lewis of the United States, that nation's first title after two Games of missing the podium (4th in 1976, boycotted in 1980). Canada's Ben Johnson (Canadian sprinter), Ben Johnson took bronze to break up the Americans' bid to sweep the podium (which they had done in 1904 and 1912); it was Canada's first medal in the event since 1964. Hasely Joachim Crawford TC, OLY (born 16 August 1950) is a former track and field athlete from Trinidad and Tobago. In 1976, he became his country's first Olympic champion. Hasely Crawford Stadium, in Port of Spain, was renamed in his honour in 2001. Early years Crawford was born in San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago, one of the eleven children of Lionel Crawford and Phyllis Holder, and began pursuing athletics at the age of 17. Mike McFarlane
Michael Anthony McFarlane OBE (2 May 1960 – 31 May 2023) was a British athlete who competed mainly in the 100 metres and 200 metres. He won an Olympic silver medal in the 4 × 100 metres relay at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, and was the 200 m gold medallist at the 1982 Commonwealth Games and a 60 metres gold medallist at the 1985 European Athletics Indoor Championships. McFarlane won two further sprint medals at the 1986 Commonwealth Games. Biography McFarlane lived in the London Borough of Hackney. He started out as a schoolboy winning the English schoolboys' 200 metres on three occasions. This success continued as he went on to win the AAA's junior Indoor 60/200 metre titles. Anthony Sharpe (born 28 June 1961) is a Jamaican-born Canadian former sprinter who won an Olympic bronze medal in the 4 x 100 metres relay and was a finalist in the 100 metres in Los Angeles 1984. In 1982, he set a Canadian record in the 200 metres with a time of 20.22 and ran his personal best 100 metres time in 10.19 seconds.
