These are the official results of the 1500 metres, Women's 1500 metres event at the Athletics at the 1972 Summer Olympics, 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. Kick (running)
A kick in a running race is the ability of some athletes to sprint at the end of an endurance-oriented race. For those who possess the ability to kick, it is a strategic weapon. For those with the liability not to possess a kick, they must seek different strategies to anticipate and diminish their opponent's kicking power, usually by a long extended surge to break away or exhaust their opponent well ahead of the finish of the race. Similar to a sprinter in cycling, a kicker has a finite distance they know they are able to sprint, making their strategy to be in the ideal position at that distance to be able to utilize that speed. Sprinting too early could lead an athlete to tie up, a form of muscle cramp that debilitates a racer from continuing to kick. Vera Nikolić
Vera Nikolić (Serbian Cyrillic: Вера Николић; 23 September 1948 – 28 June 2021) was a Serbian middle-distance runner, who competed at the 1968 and 1972 Olympics, and later became a coach. Biography Nikolić began her career in 1964 when she became Yugoslav youth champion and later Balkan youth cross-country champion at the age of 16. In the summer of that year, she set two national youth records with 57.3 seconds over 400 meters and 2:14.4 minutes over 800 meters. At the 1966 European Championships in Budapest, she won the gold medal in the 800 metres race. Grete Waitz
Grete Waitz (, 1 October 195319 April 2011) was a Norwegian marathon runner and former world record holder. In 1979, at the New York City Marathon, she became the first woman in history to run the marathon in under two and a half hours. Thelma Sonia Wright (née Fynn; born 9 October 1951) is a Canadian middle-distance runner. She competed in the 1500 metres at the 1972 Summer Olympics and the 1976 Summer Olympics. Biography In 1970, Wright won a bronze medal at the World Cross Country Championships in France, and a bronze at the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh at 1500 metres. In 1973, she won another bronze medal at the 1973 Pacific Conference Games in Toronto, in the 1500 metres, as well as at the Commonwealth Games in 1974, over the same distance. Francea ("Francie") Norma Kraker Goodridge (born February 9, 1947 in Ann Arbor, Michigan) is a former women's track and field athlete and coach from the United States. Marijke Moser, née Van de Graaf (born 1946) is a former Dutch-born Swiss middle and long distance runner.. She has campaigned for women to enter races on the same terms as men. She was the first woman to run a marathon in under three hours. Life From the age of five to twelve, Marijke van de Graaf lived with her parents in Indonesia, where her father was physician. In 1970 she married Albrecht Moser who was a member of the same athletics club as her in Hilversum in the Netherlands, after which the couple moved to Bern. Joan Florence Page née Allison OBE (born 10 June 1947) is a retired British international middle-distance runner. Biography Allison competed in the women's 800 metres at the 1968 Summer Olympics. She represented England and won a silver medal in the 1,500 metres, at the 1970 British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland. Allison finished second behind Rita Ridley in the 1500 metres event at the 1971 WAAA Championships. Allison became the British 1500 metres champion after winning the British WAAA Championships title at the 1973 WAAA Championships.
