Atatürk Children's Hospital
The Atatürk National Children Speciality Hospital is a 200-bed children's hospital located in Kabul, Afghanistan. It is one of the largest children's hospital in the city. The hospital is administered by the Afghan Ministry of Public Health. It is located in the affluent Shahr-e Naw neighborhood, next to the French Medical Institute for Children and very close to Kabul University. Gulam Hasan Kamil is the chief physician. History The hospital receives large amounts of funding and is closely tied to the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA). In 2000 the Turkish government sent $15,000 to the hospital and in 2012 sent five ambulances carrying 40 pieces of equipment to the hospital. On June 27, 2019, a doctor at the hospital was beaten and given death threats by a police officer. Many staff members went on strike in protest. Well
A well is an excavation or structure created on the earth by digging, driving, or drilling to access liquid resources, usually water. The oldest and most common kind of well is a water well, to access groundwater in underground aquifers. The well water is drawn up by a pump, or using containers, such as buckets that are raised mechanically or by hand. Water can also be injected back into the aquifer through the well. Wells were first constructed at least eight thousand years ago and historically vary in construction from a sediment of a dry watercourse to the qanats of Iran, and the stepwells and sakiehs of India. Placing a lining in the well shaft helps create stability, and linings of wood or wickerwork date back at least as far as the Iron Age. Dasht-e-Barchi Hospital
Dashte Barchi (Persian/Dari/Hazaragi دشت برچی) also known as Barchi () is a settlement located in western Kabul, Afghanistan. Previously barren and agricultural, Dashte Barchi became populated in the early 2000s by newcomers from the provinces, mostly ethnic Hazaras from Maidan Wardak, Ghazni, and Parwan, also some Kochi Pashtuns. It is mostly informally-developed, with considerable challenges to access to electricity and frequent disruptions. May 2020 Afghanistan Attacks
In May 2020, a series of insurgent attacks took place in Afghanistan, starting with the Taliban killing 20 Afghan soldiers and wounded 29 others in Zari, Balkh and Grishk, Helmand on 1 and 3 May, respectively. On 12 May, a hospital's maternity ward in Kabul and a funeral in Kuz Kunar (Khewa), Nangarhar were attacked, resulting in the death of 56 people and injuries of 148 others, including newborn babies, mothers, nurses, and mourners. ISIL–KP claimed responsibility for the funeral bombing, but no insurgent group claimed responsibility for the maternity ward shooting. The Afghan government blamed the Taliban as the main perpetrators behind the 12 May attacks, and immediately ordered the military to resume its offensives against the Taliban and other insurgent groups.
