Association For Borderlands Studies
The Association for Borderlands Studies (ABS) is an international scholarly association dedicated exclusively to the systematic interchange of ideas and information relating to international borders and frontier areas. Founded in 1976 with the original emphasis on the study of the United States-Mexico borderlands region, the association has grown steadily. It now encompasses an interdisciplinary membership of scholars at more than three hundred academic, governmental institutions, and NGOs representing the Americas, Asia, Africa and Europe. The ABS publishes an academic journal ''Journal of Borderlands Studies'' and an association newsletter ''La Frontera'', as well as sponsoring an annual meeting. Baarle-Nassau Frontière Café
Baarle-Nassau () is a municipality and town in the southern Netherlands, located in the province of North Brabant. It had a population of in . The town is the site of a complicated borderline between Belgium and the Netherlands: it encloses 22 small exclaves of the Belgian town Baarle-Hertog, of which the two largest contain seven counter-enclaves of Baarle-Nassau, and the main body of Belgium contains another. Geography The border with Baarle-Hertog, Belgium Baarle-Nassau is closely linked, with complicated borders, to the Belgian exclaves of Baarle-Hertog. Baarle-Hertog consists of 26 separate parcels of land. Borders are generally defined as geography, geographical boundaries, imposed either by features such as oceans and terrain, or by polity, political entities such as governments, sovereign states, federated states, and other administrative division, subnational entities. Political borders can be established through warfare, colonization, or mutual agreements between the political entities that reside in those areas. Frontier
A frontier is a political and geographical term referring to areas near or beyond a boundary. Australia The term "frontier" was frequently used in colonial Australia in the meaning of country that borders the unknown or uncivilised, the boundary, border country, the borders of civilisation, or as the land that forms the furthest extent of what was frequently termed "the inside" or "settled" districts. The "outside" was another term frequently used in colonial Australia, this term seemingly covered not only the frontier but the districts beyond. The ''Journal of Borderlands Studies'' is a peer-reviewed academic journal covering all aspects of borderlands studies. The journal was established in 1986 and is published by Routledge on behalf of the Association for Borderlands Studies. It appears five times a year and the editors-in-chief are Sergio Peña (El Colegio de la Frontera Norte) and Christophe Sohn (Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research).
