Asociación Corredores de Turismo Carretera (ACTC) is a sport governing body, governing body based in Argentina that specializes in auto racing competitions. It was founded on 30 August 1960, initially as a representative body and defender of the rights of drivers who competed in the Turismo Carretera category (hence its name), and then transformed in the mid-1970s into a competition inspection body, independent of the highest automotive body in Argentina: The Argentine Automobile Club. Currently, the ACTC is chaired by the former Turismo Carretera driver Hugo Mazzacane, and is in charge of the supervision of all the divisions of the TC. In addition to this category, ACTC also supervised the competitions of the Top Race V6 category, which it created in 1997 and which it ceased to audit in 2011. Touring car racing is a motorsport road racing competition that uses race-prepared touring cars. It has both similarities to and significant differences from stock car racing, which is popular in the United States. While the cars do not move as fast as those in Formula racing, formula or sports car racing, sports car races, their similarity both to one another and to fans' own vehicles makes for well-supported racing. Turismo Carretera ( Road racing, lit., ''Road Touring'') is a popular stock car racing series in Argentina, and the 2nd oldest auto racing series still active in the world. The series is organized by Asociación Corredores de Turismo Carretera. History The series was established under the Argentine Automobile Club as the "Campeonato Argentino de Velocidad" in 1937 and re-named Turismo Carretera two years later, however its' roots can be traced back to the loosely-organised ''Grands Prix de Carretera'' of the 1910s. The Argentine Automobile Club (, ACA) is Argentina's largest automobile association. It was founded on June 11, 1904, by Dalmiro Varela Castex, who in 1892 had imported the country's first registered automobile, a Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft, Daimler, and in 1894 its second (a De Dion-Bouton). Top Race V6 is a touring car race series held in Argentina. It was founded in 1997. The cars The Top Race V6 category sees the vehicles presented in silhouette form, with identical, strictly controlled mechanical specifications. Body styles currently running in the series are the Ford Mondeo, Chevrolet Vectra (aka Vauxhall/Opel Astra), Peugeot 407, Mercedes C-Class and Volkswagen Passat, all in sedan form. In previous seasons, Renault Laguna and Citroën C5 bodies were also used. Engines are identical 3.0 litre V6 units tuned by Kit Berta to produce approximately 350 hp.
