Asia Rugby Women's Championship
The Asia Rugby Championship for women's national fifteen-a-side teams is a rugby union tournament that has been contested since 2006. Organised by Asia Rugby, there are currently two competition divisions — the Championship, and Division 1. The championship is also the continental qualifying tournament for Asian women's teams in the lead up to the Rugby World Cup (women's), Rugby World Cup, and the WXV. History The Asia Rugby Women's Championship began in 2006, the first tournament was hosted by China in Kunming. Hosts, China, won the inaugural tournament and since then, Japan women's national rugby union team, Japan has won seven times, Kazakhstan women's national rugby union team, Kazakhstan five times, with China women's national rugby union team, China and Hong Kong women's national rugby union team, Hong Kong winning one each. 2023 Asia Rugby Women's Championship
The 2023 Asia Rugby Women's Championship is the 12th edition of the Asia Rugby Women's Championship, and took place from 23 to 28 May and was hosted in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The winner and runner-up will classify for the inaugural edition of the WXV. The winner qualifies for WXV2, and the runner-up competes in WXV3. WXV will also provide a pathway to the 2025 Rugby World Cup, with at least the top five non-qualified teams at the end of WXV 2024 earning qualification to the tournament. Japan defeated Kazakhstan in the final and were crowned champions. Both teams will compete in the inaugural WXV competition in October, with Japan set to compete in WXV 2 and Kazakhstan in WXV 3. 2021 Asia Rugby Women's Championship
The qualification process for the 2021 Rugby World Cup began on 9 August 2019 with 12 teams qualifying to the tournament which was to be held in New Zealand. The 2021 Rugby World Cup was postponed by one year in March 2021 to 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Qualification process Following the previous World Cup, seven teams received an automatic qualification berth - these berths being given to the top 7 teams (New Zealand, England, France, United States, Canada, Australia and Wales). The remaining five berths for the tournament will be awarded through regional tournaments. The non-automatic qualification process began on 9 August 2019. The 2015 Asia Rugby Women's Championship featured a new name and format after ARFU reorganized the competition. Previously known as the Asian Women's Four Nations, the championship was now called the Asia Rugby Women's Championship. It would be played as a round robin competition. Kazakhstan hosted Hong Kong in Alamaty for the first match. The following games were played as curtain-raisers for the men's ARC games in Fukuoka, Japan on 9 May and in Hong Kong on 23 May.
