Kirk Degiorgio
Kirk Degiorgio, better known as "As One", is a British techno producer and DJ. Born in the late 1960s in Stepney, East London, and raised in Suffolk, he started producing music in the early 1990s. He founded the labels A.R.T. Records and Op-Art Records and releases on them as well as B12 Records, R&S Records, New Electronica, and others. His style is a mixture of Detroit-style techno, mixed with funk, soul and jazz fusion. He is one half of The Beauty Room. ''As One'' is a chamber opera for two voices and a string quartet composed and created by Laura Kaminsky with librettists Mark Campbell and Kimberly Reed. It is a coming-of-age story about transgender woman Hannah, depicting her journey through her transition. The opera premiered in September 2014 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Roles Synopsis Hannah is a transgender woman (portrayed by two singers, Hannah Before (a baritone) and Hannah After (a mezzo-soprano)). During the scenes, Hannah discovers her gender identity and learns to love herself in a world where she is not accepted. It is a cinematic retelling of the first ever post-war Unified Korea sports team which won the women's team gold medal at the 1991 World Table Tennis Championships in Chiba, Japan. As One () is a South Korean R&B duo consisting of Korean-American singers Lee Min and Crystal. The group debuted in 1999 with the album ''Day by Day'', and released five more albums before announcing their hiatus from the music industry in 2017 with the single, "Goodbye for Now". As One (; stylized as AS ONE and in South Korea as AS1 to avoid confusion with the musical duo of the same name) was a Hong Kong Cantopop girl group formed by Sun Entertainment Culture and choreographer Sunny Wong. The meaning behind the group's name is based on the concept of unity, with the members united together "as one". The group was consisted of four members; Shin, Oli, Elfa and Nata. The group promoted as a quartet for two years until Oli's departure in August 2014 to pursue her studies. Subsequently, two new members (Chloe and Kayan) joined the group in March 2015 after emerging as champions of a scouting audition. Elfa announced her temporary hiatus from the group in May 2015 due to sustained injuries. As of 15 May 2015, As One is promoting as a quartet with Shin, Nata, Chloe and Kayan. History The group consisted of members Karl 'Tuff Enuff' Brown, Leigh Guest and Michael Menson and first rose to prominence through their collaborations with the Rebel MC on the Polydor/Desire releases " Just Keep Rockin'" and " Street Tuff", which reached numbers 5 and 1 respectively on the UK Indie Chart in 1989.
