Arfon was a Constituencies of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, constituency in Wales represented in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom, House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, UK Parliament at Palace of Westminster, Westminster. Although it is relatively large by geographical area, the constituency is a predominantly urban rather than rural seat, with the majority of the population living in the two towns of Bethesda, Gwynedd, Bethesda and Caernarfon, as well as in the city of Bangor, Gwynedd, Bangor, on which the constituency is based. "Arfon" is a historical name for the area, meaning "facing Anglesey"; it is also the name of the District of Arfon, former district council. Caernarfon was a United Kingdom constituencies, parliamentary constituency centred on the town of Caernarfon in Wales. It elected one Member of Parliament (United Kingdom), Member of Parliament (MP). The constituency was created in 1536 as a District of Boroughs, represented in the House of Commons of England until 1707, in the House of Commons of Great Britain from 1707 to 1800, and in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom from 1801 to 1950. The District of Boroughs was abolished in 1950, and replaced with a county constituency of the same name, which was itself abolished in 2010. In the United Kingdom, the boundary commissions are non-departmental public bodies responsible for determining the boundaries of parliamentary constituencies for elections to the House of Commons. There are four boundary commissions: one each for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Each commission comprises four members, three of whom take part in meetings. Wales is divided into thirty-two constituencies of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, which elect Members of Parliament to the House of Commons. At the 2024 United Kingdom general election in Wales, 27 Labour MPs, 4 Plaid Cymru MPs and 1 Liberal Democrat MP were elected. The Conservative Party lost all of their 13 MPs in Wales. Caernarfonshire (; , ), previously spelled Caernarvonshire or Carnarvonshire, was one of the thirteen counties of Wales that existed from 1536 until their abolishment in 1974.
