Archie Stark
Archibald McPherson Stark (December 21, 1897 – May 27, 1985) was a soccer player who became the dominant player in U.S. leagues during the 1920s and early 1930s. He spent nine seasons in the National Association Football League and another twelve in the American Soccer League. He also earned two caps, scoring five goals, as a member of the U.S. national team. He holds the U.S. single-season scoring record with 67 goals (including eight hat-tricks) scored during the 1924–25 season which is the current World Record. He was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 1950. Youth and early career Although Stark and his brother Tommy Stark were born in Scotland, they moved to the United States when Archie was thirteen years old. Indiana Flooring were a New York City soccer team that played in the American Soccer League between 1924 and 1927. They replaced New York Field Club. Before joining the ASL, the team had played in various state leagues. Brooklyn Celtic was a name used by at least two U.S. association football, soccer teams. The first was an early twentieth century amateur team which was formed in August 1910 and dominated the New York Amateur Association Football League from 1912 to 1917. In the sport of association football, a defender is an outfield player whose primary role is to stop attacks during the game and prevent the opposition from scoring. Defenders fall into four main categories: centre-backs, full-backs, sweepers, and wing-backs. The centre-back and full-back positions are most common in modern formations. Tommy Stark
Thomas Walter Stark (January 8, 1895 – February 14, 1964) was a soccer player who played as a right half. He spent several seasons in both the National Association Football League and the first American Soccer League. Born in Scotland, Stark earned one cap for the United States national team in 1925. Professional career Stark, brother of Hall of Fame member Archie Stark, was part of the Kearny Scots team which won the 1915 American Cup. He also played with Paterson F.C. of the National Association Football League (NAFBL) during the 1918–1919 season. That year Paterson lost the 1919 National Challenge Cup final to Bethlehem Steel He was then with Erie A.A. during the 1920-1921 NAFBL season.
