Arbroath 36–0 Bon Accord is the result of a football match between Arbroath and Bon Accord which took place on 12 September 1885. It holds the largest margin of victory in an unrigged first-class football match. A match between AS Adema and SO l'Emyrne, a thrown game where SO l'Emyrne scored deliberate own goals in a protest against prior officiating decisions, took the title of most goals in a professional football match in 2002. Background Arbroath were drawn against Bon Accord in the first round of the Scottish Cup which was played on 12 September 1885. The lot gave Bon Accord home advantage, but the club decided to switch the tie to Gayfield. Although Arbroath were only founded seven years earlier in 1878, they were already vastly more experienced than Bon Accord who were only a year old. The 1885–86 Scottish Cup was the 13th season of Scotland's most prestigious football knockout competition. Queen's Park won the competition for the eighth time after they beat defending champions Renton 3–1 in the final. Arbroath set a world record in the first round when they defeated Bon Accord 36–0 on 12 September 1885. The score remains a record in British senior football and globally for a match that was not fixed or thrown. Andrew Paton Welsh (19 April 1944 – 17 June 2021) was a Scottish politician. He was the Scottish National Party Member of Parliament (MP) for South Angus (UK Parliament constituency), South Angus from October 1974 to 1979, East Angus (UK Parliament constituency), East Angus from 1987 to 1997, and Angus (UK Parliament constituency), Angus from 1997 to 2001. 1891–92 Scottish Cup Preliminary Rounds
The preliminary rounds for the 1891–92 Scottish Cup took place between 5 September and 5 December 1891 to decide the 17 teams that would join the 15 exempt clubs in the first round. This was the first season to feature preliminary rounds following a change to the competition format from the previous 18 editions.
