Apolytirion
Apolytirio ( in Dimotiki from 1976–present; known as Apolytirion, , in Katharevousa from 1837–1976; abbreviated Apol., ) is the official senior secondary education school completion certificate (graduation qualification) in Greece (and Cyprus) obtained after successfully completing the third grade of lyceum (high school). It is graded on a 20-point scale. Specific conditions and rules apply to each type of lyceum in the Pan-Hellenic Examinations, based on subjects that are the same as or related to those of the General Lyceum. For example, the Vocational Lyceum (EPAL) has its own set of four examination subjects. Each type of school follows a different curriculum. Education In Greece
Education in Greece is centralized and governed by the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs, and Sports (Greek: ) at all grade levels throughout elementary, middle school, and high school. The Ministry exercises control over public schools, formulates and implements legislation, administers the budget, coordinates national level university entrance examinations, sets up the national curriculum, appoints public school teaching staff, and coordinates other services. The Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs is also in charge of which classes are necessary for general education. Academic Grading In Greece
There are four grading systems (or scales) in Greece – four different GPA – one for higher education, one for secondary education, and two for primary education (grades 3 to 4 and 5 to 6). Primary school In 1st and 2nd grades in Greek primary schools there is only descriptive evaluation, with no grades included. Demotic Greek (, , , ) is the standard spoken language of Greece in modern times and, since the resolution of the Greek language question in 1976, the official language of Greece. "Demotic Greek" (with a capital D) contrasts with the conservative Katharevousa, which was used in formal settings, during the same period. In that context, Demotic Greek describes the specific non-standardized vernacular forms of Greek used by the vast majority of Greeks during the 19th and 20th centuries. Education in Cyprus is overseen by the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth. The education system is divided into pre-primary education (ages 3–6), primary education (ages 6–12), secondary education (ages 12–18) and higher education (ages 18+).
