Pier Jacopo Alari Bonacolsi
Pier Jacopo Alari Bonacolsi (c. 1460–1528), called L'Antico by his contemporaries, and often Antico in English, the nickname given for the refined interpretation of the Antique they recognized in his work, was a 15th- and 16th-century Italian Renaissance sculptor, known for his finely detailed small bronzes ''all'Antica''—coolly classicizing, often with gilded details, and silver-inlaid eyes, a refinement that is found in some classical and Hellenistic Greek bronzes. Life There is very little documentation of Bonacolsi, in spite of the aristocratic name he bore, that of the ''signori'' of Mantua who preceded the Gonzaga until 1328. Born probably in Gazzuolo, near Mantua, he may have been trained as a goldsmith, like his only rival in Mantua, Andrea Riccio. He found patronage among the Gonzaga, at first in the court that gathered at Gazzuolo around the natural son and favorite of the marquis of Mantua, Ludovico Gonzaga, Gianfrancesco, and his wife Antonia del Balzo, wh ...

Rosso Antico
Rosso Antico ("Ancient red") is an aperitif produced in San Lazzaro di Savena, Italy. It is produced by the infusion of 32 herbs macerated in alcohol (including rosemary, thyme and sage) and then added to a mixture of 5 different types of wine. The drink is ruby-colored and has a sweet-sour flavor with notes of citrus and vanilla. Its alcohol content is 17% and is recommended for consumption as an aperitif, served plain with a slice of orange. It is sometimes used as an ingredient in a Negroni cocktail, as a substitute for Vermouth. Rosso Antico is also a name for a fancy type of marble, much used by the Romans. The marble was esteemed for its similarity to the imperial colour of purple and to the colour of wine, representing the god Dionysus. Since available blocks of rosso antico were relatively small, they were generally used for small architectural elements. It reached the height of its popularity in 2nd century Roman towns, but also continued to see use in Christian and Is ...

Stile Antico
''Stile antico'' (literally "ancient style", ), is a term describing a manner of musical composition from the sixteenth century onwards that was historically conscious, as opposed to '' stile moderno'', which adhered to more modern trends. ''Prima pratica'' (Italian, 'first practice') refers to early Baroque music which looks more to the style of Palestrina, or the style codified by Gioseffo Zarlino, than to more "modern" styles. It is contrasted with '' seconda pratica'' music. These terms are synonymous to ''stile antico'' and ''stile moderno'', respectively. History ''Stile antico'' has been associated with composers of the high Baroque and early Classical periods of music, in which composers used controlled dissonance and modal effects and avoided overtly instrumental textures and lavish ornamentation, to imitate the compositional style of the late Renaissance. ''Stile antico'' was deemed appropriate in the conservative confines of church music, or as a compositional exerc ...
