Angélique, Abbess Of Maubisson
Angélique d'Estrées (1570–1634) was the abbess of Maubuisson Abbey. She was the fourth child of Antoine d'Estrées and Françoise Babou de La Bourdaisière. Biography Born in 1570, Angélique was the fourth daughter of Françoise Babou de La Bourdaisière and Antoine d'Estrées. In 1580, before her transfer to Maubuisson Abbey, she became a nun at Saint-Louis de Poissy. In 1597, Angélique became the 20th abbess of Maubuisson Abbey, at the age of 27. Before her arrival at the abbey, it was said that Angélique—similar to that of her mother's behaviour—had numerous affairs, and continued the affairs during her time as abbess. Her scandalous ways at the abbey resulting in her banishment and removal to a home for “delinquents”. Maubuisson Abbey
Maubuisson Abbey ( or ) is a Cistercian nunnery at Saint-Ouen-l'Aumône, in the Val-d'Oise department of France. It was founded in A.D. 1236 by Blanche of Castile, Queen of France, who may have been buried there in 1252. The site is now within the north-western suburbs of Paris. The surviving buildings are listed as a ''monument historique''. History The abbey was founded in 1236 by Blanche of Castile, the queen consort of Louis VIII. It thrived financially under royal patronage until the Hundred Years' War. In the fifteenth century the nuns twice supported rival abbesses. After a century of decline the abbey was disbanded in 1787 by order of Louis XVI. From foundation to the Hundred Years War As part of an effort to strengthen the ties between royalty and the abbeys, Blanche of Castile decided to finance and build her own abbey. Antoine D'Estrées
Antoine d'Estrées (1529 – 11 May 1609) was Marquis of Coeuvres, vicomte of Soissons and of Bercy, Knight of the Order of Saint-Esprit in 1578 and Knight of the Order of Saint-Michel also in 1578. He was made gentleman of the chamber for Francis, Duke of Anjou, and later was made governor of several territories. Biography Antoine was the son of Jean d'Estrées, Count of Orbec and Marquis of Cœuvres Catherine de Bourbon. He was born some time during 1529. Françoise Babou De La Bourdaisière
Françoise Babou de La Bourdaisière, Marquise of Coeuvres, vicomtess of Soissons and of Bercy (; 1542 – 9 June 1592) was the mistress of a favourite of the king, Du Guast. She married Antoine d'Estrées in 1558, and they were the parents of Gabrielle d'Estrées—mistress of King Henry IV of France. Life Françoise Babou was the eldest daughter of Jean Babou de La Bourdaisière (1511-1569) and Françoise Robertet (1515-1580). She was described by Gédéon Tallemant des Réaux in his ''Historiettes'' as the “most prolific clan of gallant women who ever existed in France.” Francoise received an upbringing at the French royal court—as a ''fille d'honneur'' (maid of honour) to Mary Stuart.
