Amiot (car Manufacturer)
The Amiot, later known as the Amiot-Péneau, was a French tractor-type vehicle manufactured in Asnières-sur-Seine from 1897 to 1902. It was not an automobile per se; rather, it was a Front-wheel drive, front-wheel-drive Powerpack (drivetrain), power pack used to convert horse-drawn carriages into motor cars. These devices were quite popular at the time in France and were known as "avant-train", and the Amiot was one of the first on the market. The original Amiot was a four-wheeled unit with a Cyclope or Augé engine; an electric version was also manufactured. The Amiot-Péneau was two-wheeled. Asnières-sur-Seine () is a Communes of France, commune in the Hauts-de-Seine Departments of France, department and Île-de-France Regions of France, region of north-central France. It lies on the left bank of the river Seine, some eight kilometres from the Kilometre zero#France, centre of Paris in the north-western Banlieue, suburbs of the French capital. The area should be reached by line 15 of the Paris metro by 2030. The inhabitants are called the ''Asniérois'' and the ''Asniéroises'' in French. Name Asnières-sur-Seine was originally known simply as Asnières. Front-wheel drive (FWD) is a form of internal combustion engine, engine and transmission (mechanics), transmission layout used in motor vehicles, in which the engine drives the front wheels only. A powerpack or power pack is a part of a modular powertrain that contains some type of engine (most frequently an internal combustion engine, but other types, including electric motors, are possible) and may also contain a transmission and various supporting components.
