American Cinema Editors
Founded in 1950, American Cinema Editors (ACE) is an honorary society of film editing, film editors who are voted in based on the qualities of professional achievements, their education of others, and their dedication to editing. Members use the post-nominal letters "ACE". The organization's "Eddie Awards" are routinely covered in trade magazines such as ''The Hollywood Reporter'' and ''Variety (magazine), Variety''. The society is not an trade union, industry union, such as the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, I.A.T.S.E. (specifically the Motion Picture Editors Guild or MPEG), to which an editor might also belong. The current president of ACE is Kevin Tent, who was elected in 2020. Maysie Hoy
Maysie Hoy is a Canadian film editor and actress. Hoy has a brother, William Hoy, who is also a film editor. Life Hoy grew up in Canada, and moved to San Francisco to study improvisational theatre. She took up the role of artistic director at a new improvisational company, The Good Will Store. She also taught theatre games in schools and correctional facilities, and acted in Robert Altman's 1971 film McCabe & Mrs. Miller. Following filming, Hoy moved to Los Angeles and gained an apprenticeship to Altman. She worked in research, costume and production design, and acted in several of his films, including '' California Split'', ''Nashville'', ''3 Women'' and ''A Wedding''. American Cinema Editors Awards 1965
The 15th American Cinema Editors Eddie Awards, which were presented on Sunday, March 14, 1965, at the Coconut Grove, honored the best editors in films and television. This was the first-ever award ceremony that introduced the concept of the "Eddie Awards", complete with the unveiling of the "Eddie" statuette. The four categories that were introduced were ''Outstanding Picture of the Year'', ''Best Foreign or Documentary Film'', ''Best Performance by an Actor in a Film Debut'', and ''Best Performance by an Actress in a Film Debut''. There were a total of six awards, upped from three in the previous year. The award ceremony was hosted by character actor Pat Buttram. The 12th American Cinema Editors Awards, which were presented on Wednesday, February 21, 1962, at The Beverly Hills Hotel, honored the best editors in films and television. The layout of the awards were announced on September 18, 1961. The ''ACE Second Decade Anniversary Book'' writes "Henceforth A.C.E. sponsored its own editing awards." George Murphy
George Lloyd Murphy (July 4, 1902 – May 3, 1992) was an American actor and politician. Murphy was a song-and-dance leading man in many big-budget Hollywood musicals from 1930 to 1952. He was the president of the Screen Actors Guild from 1944 to 1946, and was awarded an honorary Oscar in 1951.
