Alpine Skiing At The 2022 Winter Olympics – Mixed Team
The alpine skiing mixed team event competition of the Beijing 2022 Olympics was held on 20 February, on "Rainbow" course at the Xiaohaituo Alpine Skiing Field in Yanqing District. Austria won the event, with Germany second and Norway third. Switzerland were the defending champion, with Austria and Norway the defending silver and bronze medalists, respectively. Norway were the 2021 world champion, ahead of Sweden and Germany. The event scheduled for Saturday, February 19, but was moved to Sunday, February 20 due to strong winds. Alpine skiing, or downhill skiing, is the pastime of sliding down snow-covered slopes on skis with fixed-heel bindings, unlike other types of skiing ( cross-country, Telemark, or ski jumping), which use skis with free-heel bindings. Whether for recreation or for sport, it is typically practiced at ski resorts, which provide such services as ski lifts, artificial snow making, snow grooming, restaurants, and ski patrol. Timon Haugan (born 27 December 1996 in Støren, Norway) is a Norwegian World Cup alpine ski racer who specializes in slalom. At the 2016 Junior World Championships, Haugan finished eleventh at best, but returned in 2017 and won the silver medal in the giant slalom. He made his World Cup debut in December 2017 in Madonna di Campiglio, Italy, where he also collected his first World Cup points with a 24th-place finish. Erik Read (born May 31, 1991) is a Canadian World Cup alpine ski racer specializing the technical events of slalom and giant slalom. Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, he represented Canada at two Winter Olympics and five World Championships. Career At his first World Championships in 2015 at Beaver Creek, USA, Read finished in the top thirty in giant slalom and slalom. He was also in the Nations Team Event (NTE), in which Canada won the silver medal. He competed in slalom and giant slalom at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Erin Mielzynski (born 25 May 1990) is a Canadian former World Cup alpine ski racer. She primarily competed in technical events and specialized in slalom. Born in Brampton, Ontario, Mielzynski made her World Cup debut in November 2009 and has competed in three Winter Olympics and five World Championships. She won her first World Cup race in March 2012 in slalom at Ofterschwang, Germany, her first top-ten finish. It was the first World Cup victory for a Canadian woman in over four years, when Emily Brydon won a Super G in February 2008 at St. Moritz, Switzerland. Cassidy Gray (born 25 January 2001) is a Canadian alpine skier. Career Gray has been part of the national team since 2021. Gray made her World Cup debut in January 2021 with a 26th-place finish in the giant slalom event at the Kranjska Gora stop. At Gray's first World Championships in 2021, Gray finished in 23rd in the giant slalom event. Gray designed a helmet with a Shuswap artist to honour first nations people while racing. FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2021
The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2021 were held from 8–21 February in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy. In May 2020, the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) and the event organizing committee asked the International Ski Federation (FIS) to postpone the event until 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however, the request was rejected by FIS, and the organizers then moved forward with plans for 2021. The host city was selected at the FIS Congress in Cancún, Mexico, on 10 June 2016. Cortina d'Ampezzo was the only applicant, and had been a finalist for the previous two championships. Alpine Skiing At The 2022 Winter Olympics
Alpine skiing at the 2022 Winter Olympics was held at the Yanqing National Alpine Ski Centre in Yanqing District, China. The competitions took place from 6 to 20 February 2022. Speed events were held on " Rock" course and technical events on " Ice River" course, for both men and women. Team event was held on "Rainbow." A total of 306 quota spots (153 per gender) were distributed to the alpine skiing, a reduction of 14 from 2018. Eleven events were contested: five for men, five for women, and one mixed (team). Qualification A maximum of 306 quota spots were available to athletes to compete at the games. A maximum of twenty-two athletes could be entered by a National Olympic Committee, with a maximum of eleven men or eleven women.
