Agusan Del Norte's At-large Congressional District
Agusan del Norte's at-large congressional district was a short-lived congressional district that encompassed the entire province of Agusan del Norte in the Philippines. It was represented in the House of Representatives from 1969 to 1972 and in the Regular Batasang Pambansa from 1984 to 1986. The province of Agusan del Norte was created as a result of the partition of Agusan in 1967 and elected its first representative provincewide at-large during the 1969 Philippine House of Representatives elections. It was eliminated following the dissolution of the lower house in 1972 but was later absorbed by the multi-member Region X's at-large district for the national parliament in 1978. In 1984, provincial and city representations were restored and Agusan del Norte elected a member for the regular parliament. Congressional districts of the Philippines ( fil, distritong pangkapulungan) refers to the electoral districts or constituencies in which the country is divided for the purpose of electing 253 of the 316 members of the House of Representatives (with the other 63 being elected through a system of party-list proportional representation). The country is currently divided into 253 congressional districts, also known as legislative districts or representative districts, with each one representing at least 250,000 people or one entire province. The 1987 Constitution of the Philippines initially provided for a maximum 200 congressional districts or 80 percent of the maximum 250 seats for the lower house, with the remaining 20 percent or 50 seats allotted for sectoral or party-list representatives. Edelmiro Amante
Edelmiro A. Amante, Sr. (April 21, 1933 – March 10, 2013), was a Filipino politician. Early life Amante was born in Butuan. He attended Ampayon Elementary School, then Mindanao Institute, where he graduated from high school as a salutatorian. He then studied at Silliman University, where he received an Associate in Arts degree in 1954, then a Bachelor of Laws in 1958. Career Amante started his career as a barrio lieutenant in Ampayon, Butuan. He held that position for only one year, 1959, before becoming a Councilor, from 1960 to 1964. He represented Agusan del Norte at the 1973 Constitutional Convention. He had also represented Agusan del Norte as an Assemblyman of the defunct Batasang Pambansa from 1978 to 1984. Agusan del Norte's 2nd congressional district is a congressional district for the House of Representatives of the Philippines in the province of Agusan del Norte.
