Afternoon
Afternoon is the time between noon and sunset or evening. It is the time when the sun is descending from its peak in the sky to somewhat before its terminus at the horizon in the west. In human life, it occupies roughly the latter half of the standard work and school day. In literal terms, it refers to a time specifically after noon. Terminology Afternoon is often defined as the period between noon and sunset. If this definition is adopted, the specific range of time varies in one direction: noon is defined as the time when the sun reaching its highest point in the sky, but the boundary between afternoon and evening has no standard definition. However, before a period of transition from the 12th to 14th centuries, ''noon'' instead referred to 3:00 pm. Possible explanations include shifting times for prayers and midday meals, along which one concept of ''noon'' was defined—and so ''afternoon'' would have referred to a narrower timeframe. Afternoon (magazine)
is a Japanese monthly manga anthology published by Kodansha under the ''Afternoon'' line of magazines. The first issue was released with a cover date of January 25, 1986. ''Afternoon'' has spawned many successful manga series such as '' Oh My Goddess!'', '' Genshiken'', '' Blade of the Immortal'' and '' Big Windup!''. It is part of Kodansha's "1day" series, which also includes the magazines ''Morning'' and ''Evening''. A spin-off magazine, named '' good! Afternoon'', started publishing on November 7, 2008. History The magazine was founded as a sister to ''Morning'' by the same publisher. According to Frederik L. Schodt, stories that did not convince the editors of ''Morning'' would often land in ''Afternoon''. Many of the artists working for the magazine used to publish amateur and were influenced by amateur manga. ''The Afternoon Despatch & Courier'' was an evening tabloid in Mumbai, India. The newspaper was launched by Behram Contractor, better known as "Busybee", on 25 March 1985. ''Afternoon'' is a feminist play written in 1883 by Ouida Maria Louise Ramé (1 January 1839 – 25 January 1908), going by the name Marie Louise de la Ramée and known by the pseudonym Ouida ( ), was an English novelist. Ouida wrote more than 40 novels, as well as short stories, children's boo .... It features a man, Earl L'Estrange, who marries a peasant girl, Claire Glyon. L'Estrange grows disillusioned with her and it seems she drowned herself. However, twenty years later he falls in love with a reclusive artist famous for her work, which turns out to be Claire herself, who has not drowned at all. For the remainder of the play, Claire and her friend Laura mock L'Estranger with biting wit, and he in turn eventually concedes that he had not valued his wife as he should have. Tsai Ming-liang (; born 27 October 1957) is a Malaysian filmmaker based in Taiwan. Tsai has written and directed 11 feature films, many short films, and television films. He is one of the most celebrated "Second New Wave" film directors of Taiwanese cinema. His films have been acclaimed worldwide and have won numerous awards at festivals.
