Ackermans is a South African chain of clothing retail stores. Founded in 1916 in Wynberg, Cape Town, Wynberg, Cape Town, Ackermans has over 700 stores across Southern Africa, including in Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini, eSwatini and Zambia, and is headquartered in Kuils River, Kuilsrivier near Cape Town. In 2015 Ackermans was rated the second best clothing store by the South African Consumer Satisfaction Index. History Ackermans began in 1916 when Gus Ackerman opened the very first store in Wynberg, Cape Town, South Africa. Kuilsrivier
Kuils River (Afrikaans: Kuilsrivier) is a town in the Western Cape, South Africa, 25 km (15 miles) east of Cape Town and 20 km (12 miles) west of Stellenbosch at the gateway of the Cape Winelands. It is also the name of the main tributary of the Eerste River, and forms part of the Northern Suburbs zone of the City of Cape Town. Origin Originally named De Boss, Kuils River was a refreshment post of the Dutch East India Company in 1680, also known as de Kuijlen. The department store was previously selling clothing, shoes, homeware & beauty and under new leadership has recently shifted its focus to mass-market fashion and beauty products.
