Božidar Jakac
Božidar Jakac (July 16, 1899 – November 20, 1989) was a Slovene Yugoslavian e xpressionist, realist and symbolist painter, printmaker, art teacher, photographer and filmmaker. He produced one of the most extensive oeuvres of pastels and oil paintings (landscapes, vedutas and portraits), drawings and, especially, prints in Slovenia. He was also one of the key organizers in the establishment of the Ljubljana Academy of Fine Arts and the International Biennal of Graphic Art in Ljubljana. Some of his work is on display in museums in Belgrade. Biography Jakac was born in Novo Mesto, which was then part of Austria-Hungary. He started painting in 1910 or 1911, when he was attending the Novo Mesto grammar school, and more seriously, when he was attending the technical high school in Idrija, which he finished in 1917. Jože Ciuha
Jože Ciuha (26 April 1924 – 12 April 2015) was a Slovenian painter. Biography Jože Ciuha was born in Trbovlje. In 1950 he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana. During his career he traveled extensively, his artistic style influenced by time spent in Macedonia (region), Macedonia as a student, as well as Paris and the Far East in the 1950s, and North and South America during the 1960s. Ciuha taught at the International Summer Academy in Salzburg in the 1970s, as well as Western Michigan University, and the International Graphic School in Venice and Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana. Ciuha worked with a variety of media, including watercolour, drawing, illustration, mosaic, and tapestry. He also produced poetry and other writings. Boris Kalin
Boris Kalin (24 June 1905 – 22 May 1975) was a Slovene sculptor. He mainly created classical figures, public monuments, and nudes. Some of his sculptures are kept at Brdo Castle as part of its collection of modern Slovene art. Biography Kalin was born in Solkan, which was then a suburb of the Austro-Hungarian town of Gorizia and is now part of Nova Gorica, Slovenia. He attended the technical secondary school in Ljubljana and continued his studies between 1924 and 1929 at the Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts with the professors Rudolf Valdec, Frano Kršinić, Ivo Kredić, and Ivan Meštrović. From 1945 to 1970, Kalin taught sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana; he was also its dean for two terms. He taught many younger colleagues that became prominent European artists. Gojmir Anton Kos
Gojmir Anton Kos (January 24, 1896 – May 22, 1970) was a Slovene academy-trained painter, photographer, and professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana. Gojmir was born in the town of Gorizia (then part of Austria-Hungary, now in Italy), where his father, the renowned historian Franc Kos from the vicinity of Škofja Loka in Carniola, taught at the State Gymnasium. His mother was a Friulian from the Austrian Littoral. Gojmir's older brother Milko later also became a prominent historian and chancellor of the University of Ljubljana. Gojmir studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Rudolf Bacher and Julius Schmidt. Due to the collapse of Austria-Hungary, he finished his last semester at the College of Arts and Crafts in Zagreb, where he graduated in 1919. Adriana Jadranka Maraž (26 December 1931 – 8 May 2015) was a Slovene graphic artist. She was born in Ilirska Bistrica. From 1949 until 1957, she studied painting and graphic art with the professor Maksim Sedej at the Academy of Fine Arts (Akademija za likovno umetnost) (ALU) in Ljubljana. Nikolaj Muster (22 November 1925 – 7 May 2018), known as Miki Muster, was a Slovenian academic sculptor, illustrator, cartoonist, and animator. He is viewed as a pioneer in the field of comics and animation in Slovenia, known for the series of comics featuring the characters Zvitorepec, Trdonja, and Lakotnik, and animated TV commercials. Biography Muster first got interested in animation when he saw Disney's ''Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs''. Igor Torkar was the pen name of Boris Fakin (13 October 1913 – 1 January 2004), a Slovenian writer, playwright, and poet best known for his literary descriptions of Communist repression in Yugoslavia after World War II. Life Torkar was born in a Slovene family in the village of Kostanjevica na Krasu, then part of the Austro-Hungarian County of Gorizia and Gradisca, now in Slovenia.
