The Academy of Arts and Culture in Osijek ( hr, Akademija za umjetnost i znanost u Osijeku) is a Croatian art school affiliated with the University of Osijek. History The Academy was founded in October 2004 when the Department Section of Music ceased to be a part of the Faculty of Philosophy in Osijek in order to be joined by some new courses (Piano, Voice, Acting and Puppetry, Fine Arts) in the formation of an independent institution. In October 2005, the Academy moved to its own premises once occupied by the barracks and now the location of the future university campus. Osijek () is the fourth-largest city in Croatia, with a population of 96,848 in 2021. It is the largest city and the economic and cultural centre of the eastern Croatian region of Slavonia, as well as the administrative centre of Osijek-Baranja County. The Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek ( hr, Sveučilište Josipa Jurja Strossmayera u Osijeku, la, Universitas studiorum Mursensis), commonly known as the University of Osijek (UNIOS), is a public university based in Osijek, Croatia. Established in 1975, it is the flagship institution of higher education in Slavonia, and one of the largest and oldest universities in Croatia. The University of Osijek is organized into 11 faculties, an academy and a number of other organizational units. The Croatian National Theatre ( hr, Hrvatsko narodno kazalište u Osijeku) is a theatre building in Osijek, capital of the Croatian region of Slavonia. Opened in 1866, and the building was expanded and fully completed in 1907 according to the plans of its local architect, Karlo Klausner.
