A Midsummer Night's Dream (2017 Film)
''A Midsummer Night's Dream'' is a 2017 film adaptation of the play ''A Midsummer Night's Dream'' by William Shakespeare. The film is a modern rendition that relocates the story from ancient Athens to present-day Los Angeles. Plot The film follows the original play but is set in modern-day Los Angeles. Because of this, the film has minute changes to suit the new setting. Among them is the "rude mechanicals" who are depicted as filmmakers. Quince is now female and a romantic subplot is added between her and Nick Bottom. Duke Theseus is now a film producer with implied connections to the criminal underworld. The fairies are implied to be forest bohemians, though they still possess magic. Nick Bottom's transformation into an ass is taken quite literally in this version with his face turning into a butt, complete with fart noises. While the film retains the original Shakespearian dialogue, it will occasionally add new dialogue, some of which reference Shakespeare's other works, for ... Snout has eight lines under the name of Tom Snout, and two lines as ''The Wall''. He is the Wall for Act V-Scene 1. Peter Quince
Peter Quince is a character in William Shakespeare's ''A Midsummer Night's Dream''. He is one of the six mechanicals of Athens who perform the play which Quince himself authored, "The Most Lamentable Comedy and Most Cruel Death of Pyramus and Thisbe" for the Duke Theseus and his wife Hippolyta at their wedding. Titania's Fairies also watch from a distance: Moth, Peaseblossom, Cobweb and Mustardseed. His name is derived from "quines" or "quoins", which are interlocked oversized corner blocks used by masons to add extra strength at corners and edges of stone walls. Characterization Quince's amateurish playwriting is usually taken to be a parody of the popular mystery plays of the pre-Elizabethan era, which were also produced by craftspeople. His metrical preferences refer to vernacular ballads. Despite Quince's obvious shortcomings as a writer, Stanley Wells argues that he partly resembles Shakespeare himself. Both are from a craftsmanly background, both work quickly and both take s ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Titania (Shakespeare)
Titania () is a character in William Shakespeare's 1595–1596 play ''A Midsummer Night's Dream''. In the play, she is the Queen of the fairies and wife of the Fairy King, Oberon. The pair are depicted as powerful natural spirits who together guarantee the fertility or health of the human and natural worlds. Yet their falling out has severely disrupted both worlds, as Titania explains at length in Act 1 Scene 2, ending "And this same progeny of evils comes From our debate, from our dissension." Origins The names Titania and Oberon may both sound vaguely classical, but neither is a figure from classical mythology. Survivals of homegrown English paganism were sometimes denounced as witchcraft; but Shakespeare folds his pagan fairies into the more accepted mythology of Greco-Roman literature, associating Titania and Oberon with the legend of Theseus. Shakespeare likely took the name Titania from Ovid's ''Metamorphoses'', where it is an appellation given to the daughters of Ti ... Oberon
Oberon () is a king of the fairy, fairies in Middle Ages, medieval and Renaissance literature. He is best known as a character in William Shakespeare's play ''A Midsummer Night's Dream'', in which he is King of the Fairies and spouse of Titania (A Midsummer Night's Dream), Titania, Queen of the Fairies. Etymology Oberon is a variant spelling of Auberon, earlier Alberon, the origin of which is uncertain, though it may be connected with Alberich and Aubrey, or might else be derived from the Old High German elements wikt: adal#Old High German, adal 'noble' + wikt: bero#Old High German, ber(n) 'bear'. French heroic song Oberon is first attested as the name of a fairy king in the early 13th century entitled Huon de Bordeaux, Les Prouesses et faitz du noble Huon de Bordeaux, wherein the eponymous hero encounters King Oberon of the fairies as he passes through a enchanted forest, forest. Huon is forewarned by a hermit not to speak to Oberon, but his courtesy causes him to answer the ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Hippolyta
In Greek mythology, Hippolyta, or Hippolyte (; ''Hippolytē''), was a daughter of Ares and Otrera,Hyginus, ''Fabulae'', 30 queen of the Amazons, and a sister of Antiope and Melanippe. She wore her father Ares' ''zoster'', the Greek word found in the Iliad and elsewhere meaning "war belt". Some English translations prefer "girdle". Hippolyta figures prominently in the myths of both Heracles and Theseus. The myths about her are so varied it is thought that they may be about different women. The name ''Hippolyta'' translates as "she who unleashes the horses", deriving from two Greek roots meaning "horse" and "let loose". Legends Ninth Labor of Heracles In the myth of Heracles, Hippolyta's belt (, ''zōstḗr Hippolytēs'') was the object of his ninth labour. He was sent to retrieve it for Admete, the daughter of King Eurystheus. Most versions of the myth indicate that Hippolyta was so impressed with Heracles that she gave him the belt without argument (In some versions sh ...
