A Gun Fightin' Gentleman
''A Gun Fightin' Gentleman'' is a 1919 American Western film directed by John Ford and starring Harry Carey. Because only three reels of originally five or six are known to exist, this film is considered a partially lost film. Plot As described in a film magazine, ranch owner Cheyenne Harry (Carey) is the victim of a plot engineered by land speculator John Merritt (Sherry), who uses a doctored title to deprive Harry of his land holdings. Powerless in the face of his opponent's superior knowledge of the law, Harry is forced to retaliate by appropriating Merritt's payroll. Later he abducts Merritt's daughter Helen (O'Connor) and holds her pending settlement of their dispute. John Martin Feeney (February 1, 1894 – August 31, 1973), known professionally as John Ford, was an American film director and naval officer. He is widely regarded as one of the most important and influential filmmakers of his generation. Joe Harris (actor)
Joe Harris (January 11, 1870 - June 11, 1953) was an American actor, who between 1913 and 1923 appeared in at least 94 silent films, many of them cowboy westerns. He often played villains opposite early cowboy star Harry Carey. Biography Harris was born Joseph Harris on January 11, 1870, in Lewiston, Maine to Irish parents. His first major film roles were in Hollywood productions by Venus Features where he was one of the stock actors for Powers Picture Plays, which was owned by film producer Pat Powers. He ultimately became friends with cowboy silent film star Harry Carey, for whom he worked as a hired hand. He became one of the members of John Ford's stock company at Universal Pictures and ultimately appeared with Carey in about twenty silent Westerns. He and Carey remained lifelong friends, and he lived with Carey and his family for most of his life. Lydia Yeamans Titus (12 December 1857 – 30 December 1929) was an Australian-born American singer, dancer, comedienne, and actress who had a lengthy career in vaudeville and cinema. She was remembered on stage for her ''Baby-Talk'' act and a popular rendition of the English ballad, ''Sally in Our Alley''. In appreciation, King Edward VII once presented Titus a gold bar pin with the opening notes of ''Sally in Our Alley'' etched in diamonds. In later life Titus became a pioneer in the medium of film appearing in at least 132 motion pictures between 1911 and 1930. Harry von Meter (March 20, 1871 – June 2, 1956; sometimes credited Harry van Meter) was an American silent film actor. He starred in about 200 films in the period from 1912 through 1929. He retired from acting just as sound films were beginning. Born in Malta Bend, Missouri, von Meter was signed by the Thanhouser Company based in New Rochelle, New York in 1912, moving to American Film Studios a year or two later. He appeared in the 1923 film '' The Hunchback of Notre Dame'' as Monsignor Neufchatel. He died in Sawtelle, Los Angeles, California in 1956, at age 85.
