ASUN Men's Basketball Tournament
The ASUN Conference men's basketball tournament (formerly known as the Trans America Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament between 1979 and 2001) is the conference championship tournament in basketball for the ASUN Conference, formerly known as the Trans America Athletic Conference (TAAC) and Atlantic Sun Conference. The tournament has been held every year since 1979, except for 1992–93. It is a single-elimination tournament and seeding is based on regular season records. The winner, declared conference champion, receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, NCAA men's basketball tournament, as long as it is eligible for NCAA-sponsored postseason play. The 1982 Trans America Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament (now known as the ASUN men's basketball tournament) was held March 3–5 at the Fant–Ewing Coliseum in Monroe, Louisiana. Northeast Louisiana defeated in the championship game, 98–85, to win their second TAAC/Atlantic Sun men's basketball tournament. The Indians, in turn, received an automatic bid to the 1982 NCAA tournament. Only the top seven teams in the conference qualified for this year's tournament; the two teams with the worst records, Samford and Hardin–Simmons, were excluded. Hirsch Coliseum
Hirsch Memorial Coliseum is 10,000-seat multi-purpose arena in Shreveport, Louisiana, designed by the late local architect Edward F. Neild Jr. (1908–1958) who, with his father in 1937, had designed the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum in Shreveport. The coliseum is named after William Rex Hirsch, a former fair president, manager and treasurer. The Houston Christian Huskies men's basketball team, known as the Houston Baptist Huskies until 2022, represents Houston Christian University in Houston, Texas, in NCAA Division I men's basketball competition. The Centenary Gentlemen basketball team represents Centenary College, located in Shreveport, Louisiana, in NCAA Division III men's basketball competition.
