AM4-M4
The AM5-M2 and AM4-M4 are two series of Alstom Metropolis heavy rail rolling stock that operate on lines Line 2 (Budapest Metro), M2 and Line 4 (Budapest Metro), M4 of the Budapest Metro. Since 2009, 22 AM5-M2 sets have been constructed for use on Line M2 with delivery to be completed by 2013. A further 22 AM4-M4 sets have been constructed since 2012 for use on Line M4 with delivery due to be completed by 2014. On December 5, 2016, an accident occurred on Line 2 (Budapest Metro), Metro Line M2 which involved an AM5-M2 rolling stock. An incoming train collided with a waiting train at the Pillangó utca metro station. This was the first serious accident in the history of the Budapest metro. The accident did not result in a fatality, but according to the prosecution, a total of twenty-one were injured, five of whom were classified as serious. Alstom SA () is a French multinational rolling stock manufacturer which operates worldwide in rail transport markets. It is active in the fields of passenger transportation, signaling, and locomotives, producing high-speed, suburban, regional and urban trains along with trams. The company and its name (originally spelled Alsthom) was formed by a merger between the electric engineering division of Société Alsacienne de Constructions Mécaniques (Als) and Compagnie Française Thomson-Houston (thom) in 1928. Significant acquisitions later included the Constructions Électriques de France (1932), shipbuilder Chantiers de l'Atlantique (1976), and parts of ACEC (late 1980s). A merger with parts of the British General Electric Company formed GEC Alsthom in 1989. Throughout the 1990s, the company expanded its holdings in the rail sector, acquiring German rolling stock manufacturer Linke-Hofmann-Busch and Italian rail signaling specialist Sasib Railways.
