AFL Barwon Women's Football
AFL Barwon Female Football is a women's Australian rules football competition based in the greater Geelong region. The first season of senior football held for women in the area was 2018. The senior competition has since swelled to three divisions incorporating 20 teams. A further eight underage girls divisions are also competed for in the 2023 season. Background AFL Barwon is the governing body overseeing Australian rules football in the Geelong and greater district. After many years in which only junior girl's competitions were organised, a senior women's football competition commenced in 2018 under the banner of AFL Barwon Women's Football. Rather than being organised by the GFL, GDFL, or the BFL, the competition is managed under the AFL Barwon banner. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. The Bell Post Hill Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Panthers'', is a football club and netball club based in the residential suburb of Bell Post Hill, Victoria. The club teams currently compete in the Geelong & District Football League (GDFL). The football section fields senior, reserves and under, 14s, 12s, 10s and youth girls teams. The Northern Football Netball League (formerly known as the Diamond Valley Football League and later Northern Football League) is an Australian sports league based in the Diamond Valley region of suburban Melbourne, Victoria. The league regulates competitions of both sports, Australian rules football and netball in the region. Melissa Hickey (born 18 December 1984) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Melbourne Football Club and the Geelong Football Club in the AFL Women's (AFLW). She served as Geelong captain in the club's first two AFL Women's seasons. She also played in the Victorian Women's Football League/VFL Women's for eleven seasons, representing the St Albans Spurs, and Geelong. The Colac Imperials Football Netball Club is an Australian rules football and netball club which competes in the Colac DFL since its founding in 1937. They are based in the Victorian town of Colac. Colac Imperials play in Colac, the main regional centre for the region. History The club was formed from the disbanded St Andrews Football Club who had played in the Colac Churches Association. History The club was established in 1876, and is currently in the Geelong & District Football League. The club's colours are black and white, with a magpie as their logo.
