AACTA Award For Best Indie Film
The AACTA Award for Best Indie Film is an award presented by the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) since 2018. The award is presented at the annual AACTA Awards, which hand out accolades for achievements in feature film, television, documentaries and short films. Since 2024 the awards have been held at the Gold Coast, Queensland. History The establishment of the AACTA Award for Best Indie Film was announced on 1 May 2018. The inaugural award was won by ''Jirga'', directed by Benjamin Gilmour. Eligibility The intention of the award is to allow "a pathway into competition for a greater number of films from filmmakers with diverse backgrounds (gender, sexual and cultural diversity), as well as films from emerging filmmakers". Only films with a budget of under million are eligible. Cameron Nugent (born 1974) is an Australian actor, director, writer and producer. Early life Nugent began his acting career at the age of 12, when an uncle approached him to appear in a commercial for National Nine News in 1986. Steven Vidler (born 9 August 1960) is an Australian actor, screenwriter and director known for his part in the Scottish–Australian series '' Jeopardy''. Early life and education Vidler was born on 9 August 1960 in Sydney, Australia. He formally trained at Sydney's National Institute of Dramatic Art, from where he graduated in 1983 with a Bachelor of Dramatic Art and Acting. He continued his studies at NIDA, undertaking an Actor-Director relationship course, run in collaboration with AFTRS.
