Tuttle is a city in Kidder County, North Dakota, United States. The population was 60 at the 2020 census. Tuttle was founded in 1911. At the turn of the 19th century and early 20th century, the land surrounding Tuttle was predominantly, although not exclusively, homesteaded by families of German-Russian ethnicity. Tuttle Creek Lake is a reservoir on the Big Blue River 5 miles (8 km) north of Manhattan, in the Flint Hills region of northeast Kansas. It was built and is operated by the Army Corps of Engineers for the primary purpose of flood control. Secondary functions of the project include release of water stores to maintain barge traffic on the Mississippi River during seasons of drought, maintenance of a multi-use conservation pool for fish and wildlife enhancement and recreation (fishing, hunting, and boating), and release of sufficient water in droughts to maintain water quality for downstream communities. The base of the dam is bordered by Tuttle Creek State Park, which features of recreational areas, including nature trails, camping sites, and an artificial beach. The state park also hosted the Country Stampede Music Festival every summer from 1996 to 2018. History Located east of the Chisholm Trail, Tuttle was developed as a farming and ranching community. The town was platted in 1901 and the land was purchased Chickasaw land from the Colbert Family. The town is named after local rancher James H. Tuttle, a Choctaw by marriage and the father of automobile dealer and politico Holmes Tuttle. At the time of its founding, Tuttle was located in Pickens County, Chickasaw Nation. The right-of-way for the St. Louis and San Francisco Railway came from the tribal allotment of Frances Schrock, a Choctaw. Schrock Park is named after her. Tuttle Mountain is a summit in San Juan County, Colorado, United States. Description Tuttle Mountain is located south-southeast of the community of Ouray and west of Animas Forks, on land administered by the Bureau of Land Management. Tuttle is situated west of the Continental Divide in the San Juan Mountains which are a subrange of the Rocky Mountains. Precipitation runoff from the east side of the mountain drains into tributaries of the Animas River, and the west slope drains to headwaters of the Uncompahgre River. Topographic relief is significant as the summit rises approximately above California Gulch in one-half mile and above Poughkeepsie Gulch in one-half mile. Access to the mountain is via the Alpine Loop Back Country Byway.
