66th Brigade (People's Republic Of China)
The 66th Brigade (), also known as the 66th OPFOR Brigade or 66th Blue Brigade () is an air formation of the People's Republic of China (PRC). The 66th Brigade serves as an aggressor unit designed to simulate adversarial air combat forces in training. Appearing to be the only such opposing force (OPFOR) unit of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF), the unit can be compared to the aggressor squadrons of the United States and Canada. The unit is garrisoned at Cangxian Air Base in Hebei Province and reports to the Air Force Flight Test and Evaluation Center, itself subordinate to the Air Force Flight Test and Training Base (FTTB). Although the United States and NATO militaries depict friendly forces in blue and their adversaries in red, their principal opponents, the Russian and Chinese militaries, depict friendly forces in red and those of their adversaries (such as NATO) in blue. Nap-of-the-earth
Nap-of-the-earth (NOE) is a type of very low-altitude flight course used by military aircraft to avoid enemy detection and attack in a high-threat environment. Other, mostly older terms include "ground-hugging", "terrain masking", "flying under the radar" and "hedgehopping". During NOE flight, geographical features are used as cover, exploiting valleys and folds in the terrain by flying in, rather than over, them. This keeps the aircraft below enemy air defence radar coverage, avoiding being silhouetted against the sky. Purpose NOE is used to minimize detection by hostile aircraft, AWACS surveillance and control systems, ground-based radar, or attack targets. People's Liberation Army Ground Force
The People's Liberation Army Ground Force (PLAGF; ) is the land-based service branch of the People's Liberation Army and the largest and oldest branch of the entire Chinese armed forces. The PLAGF can trace its lineage from 1927 as the Chinese Red Army; however, it was not officially established until 1948. The 195th Heavy Combined Arms Brigade () is a maneuver formation of People's Liberation Army Ground Force which serves as an opposing force unit in exercises. History Originally designated the 195th Mechanized Infantry Brigade (), it was formed on November 26, 2011 from the 1st Armored Division being split. The brigade was then a part of the 65th Army. Since its inception, the brigade was converted to a dedicated opposing force unit. In late 2013, the brigade was transferred to the control of the Beijing Military Region. From May 2014 to September 2015, the brigade fought 33 simulated battles with other brigades and divisions of the PLA ground force at Zhurihe Combined Arms Tactics Training Center, with 32 wins and 1 loss.
