5th Congress Of The Workers' Party Of Korea
The 5th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea took place from 2 to 13 November 1970. At the time, there were approximately 1.6 million party members—around 13% of the population. Of these, 1,734 attended the congress. During the event, Kim Il Sung delivered a report introducing the "Three Revolutions" (ideological, technological, and cultural) and the "Six-Year National Economic Plan (1971–1976)". The WPK's 5th Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Central Committee held 19 plenary meetings between 1970 and 1980. At the 1st Plenary Session on 13 November 1970, Kim Il Sung was appointed General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, General Secretary, alongside the formation of a 15-member Political Committee and a 9-member Secretariat. The 8th Plenary Session in February 1974 designated Kim Jong Il as Kim Il Sung's successor. Kim Tong-gyu (; 1915 - unknown) was a politician of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea who served as Vice President of North Korea. Choe Yong-jin ( (1911-1998) was a North Korean politician and general. He belonged to the Manchu faction. He served as Vice Premier of North Korea Biography Born in North Hamgyong Province in 1911. 1928 Graduated from Pyongyang Second Middle School. He joined the anti-Japanese partisans in Manchuria. Nam Il (5 June 1915 – 7 March 1976) was a Russian-born North Korean military officer and co-signer of the Korean Armistice Agreement. Biography Nam was born Yakov Petrovich Nam () probably in the Russian Far East. Due to a Soviet policy, Nam's family, like many Koreans in Russia's Far East, were moved to Central Asia. He was educated at Smolensk Military School and in Tashkent. Nam achieved his final rank of captain as an Assistant to the Division Chief of Staff of a Soviet Army division during World War II. Hyon Mu-gwang (, 1913 – March 1992) was a North Korean politician, vice premier of the State Administration of Government, member of the of North Korea and chairman of the National Audit Committee. Biography Hyon Mu-gwang was born in Hongyuan County, south-central South Hamgyong Province. In his early years, he worked as a worker in a factory in Seoul.
