''Three Men in White'' is a 1944 American comedy-drama film in the Dr Kildare series directed by Willis Goldbeck. It stars Lionel Barrymore, Van Johnson, and Marilyn Maxwell. Ava Gardner has a supporting role. The plot threads include the competition between Ames and How to be Gillespie's new assistant, Ames' involvement with a beautiful young woman who passed out in a car, presumably from drinking but in fact had no alcohol in her system, and her mother, whose intense arthritis has her kept in a neck brace and a chair, unable to move without pain. Willis Goldbeck
Willis Goldbeck (October 24, 1898 – September 17, 1979) was an American screenwriter, film director and producer. He wrote for 40 films between 1923 and 1962. He also directed ten films between 1942 and 1951. Willis graduated from Worcester Academy. Biography Willis Goldbeck was born in New York City. A former journalist, Goldbeck entered films as a screenwriter in the early 1920s. He wrote most of the "Dr. Kildare" series for MGM, starting with the first one, ''Young Dr. Kildare'' (1938), and directed several of them. Although he directed several more films after that—including one of Burt Lancaster's early swashbucklers, ''Ten Tall Men'' (1951)—he mainly concentrated on screenwriting, and in the mid-1950s turned to producing. He retired from films in 1962. He died September 17, 1979 in Sag Harbor, New York, a month before his 81st birthday. Alma Kruger
Alma Kruger (September 13, 1871 – April 5, 1960) was an American actress. Career Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1871 (or 1868 according to other sources), Kruger had a long career on stage before appearing in films. From 1907 to 1935, she featured in theatre plays on Broadway, mostly in Shakespearean plays such as '' Hamlet'' (as Gertrude), '' Twelfth Night'' (as Olivia), '' Taming of the Shrew'' (Widow), and '' The Merchant of Venice'' (Nerissa). Kruger was brought to Hollywood by Samuel Goldwyn. She appeared in her first film '' These Three'' (1936) while in her 60s. She then proceeded to act in over 40 films in the space of little more than a decade. Among her notable roles was Nurse Molly Byrd, the superintendent of nurses in the popular Dr. Kildare/Dr. Gillespie film series, appearing in all but the first two of the 16 movies.
