2022 Columbia, Missouri, Mayoral Election
Columbia, Missouri held an election on April 5, 2022, concurrently with elections for the city council members for wards 3 and 4. Background During a community briefing on September 17, 2021, incumbent mayor Brian Treece announced he would not seek re-election for a third term. Citing the "level of responsibility and the burden" of his job during the COVID-19 pandemic in Missouri, COVID-19 pandemic, Mayor Treece said in his statement "The last 18 months have been no easy decisions. There's no playbook on handling a pandemic. That takes its toll." Petition forms for candidates were made available to pick up from the office of the City Clerk beginning on October 19, 2021. Candidate petition filings for the municipal elections opened on October 26 and closed on January 11, 2022 at 5 pm. Columbia Public Schools
The Columbia Public School District is located in Columbia, Boone County, Missouri. The district is Accredited with Distinction by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. 19,052 students are enrolled as of 2020. The district has four high schools, seven middle schools, and twenty-one elementary schools. The district also has a career center, preschool, gifted education school, and special education school. The current Superintendent, Brian Yearwood, started with the district on July 1st, 2021. Prior to 2013, there were three middle schools for grades 6-7 and three junior high schools for grades 8–9. With the opening of Battle High School, 9th grade was able to move to high school and all six schools became middle schools for grades 6–8. 2022 Missouri Elections
Missouri state elections were held on November 8, 2022, and the primary election were held on August 2, 2022. Missouri voters elected their Class 3 United States Senate, US Senator, State Auditor of Missouri, State Auditor, all of the seats for the United States House of Representatives, House of Representatives, all of the seats of the Missouri House of Representatives, and 17 of 34 seats in the Missouri State Senate. Columbia City Council
The Columbia City Council is the lawmaking body of the city of Columbia, Missouri. It has seven elected members, including the Mayor of Columbia. Each member represents one of the city's six wards, except the mayor who is elected by city-wide vote. Council members are elected for three-year terms. Elections are held annually, as the terms are staggered. In addition to lawmaking, the main duties of the council include hiring a city manager and appointing citizens to boards and commissions; of which there are 57 as of 2019.
