Municipal elections in Canada fall within the jurisdiction of the various provinces and territories, who usually hold their municipal elections on the same date every two, three or four years, depending on the location. Each province has its own nomenclature for municipalities and some have local elections for unincorporated areas which are not technically municipalities. The Burnaby Green Party is a municipal political party in Burnaby, British Columbia. It was founded as the Burnaby Municipal Green Party in 2011 by Rick McGowan. In 2011, the party nominated five candidates for the municipal elections, including former Green Party of British Columbia leader Jane Sterk. Sharon Gaetz
Sharon L. Gaetz is the first woman elected mayor of Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada. She had previously served as acting mayor prior to being elected. Mayor Gaetz also served as director for the Fraser Valley Regional District. She was elected mayor during the 2008 British Columbia municipal elections. In 2018, she lost to incumbent city councilor Ken Popove whilst seeking a fourth term. Castlegar is the second-largest community in the West Kootenay region of British Columbia, Canada.
