2016 United States Senate Election In Alabama
The 2016 United States Senate election in Alabama was held on November 8, 2016, to elect a member of the United States Senate to represent the State of Alabama, concurrently with the 2016 U.S. presidential election, as well as other elections to the United States Senate in other states and elections to the United States House of Representatives and various state and local elections. Incumbent Republican Senator Richard Shelby won re-election to a sixth term in office. The primaries were held on March 1. Ron Crumpton, a marijuana legalization activist, was the Democratic nominee. Shelby won re-election with 63.96% of the vote. Despite an overwhelming victory statewide, this marks Shelby’s first race as either a Republican or Democrat in which he has failed to carry Jefferson County (home of Birmingham, the state’s largest city). Mike Hubbard (born February 11, 1962) is an American former state politician and a convicted felon who was a Republican member of the Alabama House of Representatives, representing the 79th district in Lee County. He was first elected in 1998 and previously served as Speaker of the Alabama House of Representatives. Young Jacob Boozer III (born November 23, 1948) is an American politician who served as the 39th State Treasurer of Alabama from 2011 to 2019. Robert Brown Aderholt (; born July 22, 1965) is an American politician and attorney serving as the U.S. representative for since 1997. He is a member of the Republican Party.
