Senate elections were held in the Czech Republic on 10–11 October 2014, with a second round on 17–18 October 2014. One-third of Senate seats (27 out of 81) were elected, along with approximately 62,300 local council seats. The election date was announced by the President Miloš Zeman in June, 2014. Bohuslav Sobotka
Bohuslav Sobotka (; born 23 October 1971) is a Czech politician and lawyer who served as the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic from January 2014 to December 2017 and Leader of the Czech Social Democratic Party (ČSSD) from 2010 until his resignation in June 2017. He was Member of the Chamber of Deputies (MP) from 1996 to 2018. Sobotka also served as minister of Finance from 2002 to 2006. Sobotka was born in Telnice but soon moved with his family to Slavkov u Brna. He studied law at the Masaryk University in Brno and earned magister degree in 1995. After the fall of communism he helped rebuild Czech Social Democratic Party (ČSSD) and became a member. Sobotka also co-founded Young Social Democrats, a youth wing of the ČSSD. The Green Party ( cs, Strana zelených, lit=Party of Greens) is a green political party in the Czech Republic. History The Green party was founded in 1990 following the return to liberal democracy in Czechia following the Velvet Revolution. However, the party remained on the political margins until Jaromír Štětina was able to capture a seat in the Senate (upper house of the Parliament of the Czech Republic) in 2004. It was during this time that the Greens campaigned on pacificism (rejecting the idea that any foreign military power should have military bases in the Czech Republic) and greater incorporation of grassroots democracy in the country. Civic Conservative Party (Czech Republic)
Civic Conservative Party ( cs, Občanská konzervativní strana, OKS or O.K. strana) was a national conservative political party in the Czech Republic, founded in 2013 by Jiří Janeček as a split from the Civic Democratic Party. History In February 2013, Jiří Janeček founded the so-called ''Right faction'' within the Civic Democratic Party (ODS), with more than 300 members of the party. Janeček stated that the faction aimed to help the party solve its problems. Janeček's actions were criticised by many prominent members of ODS. Janeček resigned as Chairman of the Prague 11 organisation of ODS. In November 2017, Janeček announced that the faction would leave ODS and become the Civic Conservative Party, arguing that ODS had left behind the ideas it was founded upon. Club Of Committed Non-Party Members
The Club of Committed Non-Party Members (in Czech ''Klub angažovaných nestraníků'', ''KAN'') is a small liberal party in the Czech Republic co-founded by Rudolf Battěk. It was founded during the Prague Spring in May 1968 by 144 leading Czechoslovak intellectuals and prominent social figures. It was formed as an independent activist organisation with the purpose of advocating a reform program. It committed itself to human rights and civil equality, political pluralism, and the principles embodied in the UN Declaration on human rights. During its peak, it claimed to have almost 15,000 members. The Soviet Army formally proscribed it in September 1968. After the Velvet Revolution of 1989, KAN was reorganized in 1990 as a party, but it has not gained wide support in the elections and is not represented in the parliament. The Independents ( cs, Nezávislí) is a political party in the Czech Republic. History The party was established on 8 September 1994 as the Association of Prague Independents, before adopting its current name in 1995. In the 1996 Chamber of Deputies and Senate elections it received 0.5% of the vote and failed to win a seat. Despite increasing its vote share to 0.9% in the Chamber of Deputies elections and 0.8% in the Senate elections of 1998, the party remained seatless. The 2000 Senate elections saw the party finish fifth, although with only 1.5% of the vote and no seats. However, in the 2002 Senate elections the party received 4% of the vote in the first round, and won two seats. They won two seats in the European Parliament in the 2004 elections, and another seat in the Senate elections later the same year. Ostravak is a political movement in Ostrava, Czech Republic, that arose just before the 2010 municipal elections in response to " clientelism, arrogance of power, unprofessionalism, disrespect for the law, inefficient and uneconomical use of Ostrava property". Ostravak is a regional movement without national affiliation or ambitions to nationwide political participation. The Ostravak citizens' movement originated from the civic association "We Live in the City - Our Ostrava". Mayors for the Liberec Region ( cs, Starostové pro Liberecký kraj, SLK) is a regionalist party in the Czech Republic that was established prior to the 2008 Czech regional elections. The party won the 2012 regional election in Liberec and its leader Martin Půta became governor of the Liberec Region, the first time a governor had come from outside one of the major parties.
